On both my Toshiba laptops I can make profile settings that use way less CPU if I am going away for any length of time et leave it on to recieve mail. On the Aspire it seems I only have control over times the monitor, HD, standby and hibernate go into effect. I tried a download called SpeedSwitchXP. Everytime I try to install it I get a message that the wrong installer is present. I have never ... ever, gotten that message on any program I have downloaded. Now I'm searching again. Do you know anyway or any programs that gives control over the amount of CPU being used for the Aspire. Thanks! Jack

Just set your power profile to max battery. It'll automatically set the cpu speed to the lowest.

BTW.. the fastest and slowest cpu speed has minimal effect on your battery life since Atom is like the 4th largest power draw device in the laptop.
