    Hello

I want to replace my SSD with a hard drive. The hard drive model is:

30GB 1.8" TOSHIBA MK3008GAL~IPOD ZUNE VIDEO HARD DRIVE
    $33.99
    http://cgi.ebay.com/30GB-1-8-TOSHIB...c0.m14&_trkparms=65:15|66:2|39:1|293:1|294:50

I have read so many threads and I just got confused. The MK3008GAL does work with the acer aspire one, but I have some questions:

    - Some people say they used the SSD original cable and some people say they had to buy a new cable... do I have to buy a flip cable or shorten the original one?

    Thanks for your answers.

    hey.

i've used a toshiba mk6028gal which seems to be pretty similar to what you have. on the picture it looks like you have a lif connector too. the ssd in the aspire one uses a zif connector and therefore the cable is to thick for your harddrive (was for mine to). i found the information in this forum. you have use sandpaper to reduce the thickness of the little blue plastik thing (sorry, i'm not a native speaker) at the end of the cable to make it fit into yout lif connector.

worked perfect for me and bios recognized my harddrive first try.

    cheers

Thank you Ernesto for your reply. How much did you pay for your 60GB drive?

As soon as I mod my aspire one I will tell you my results.

    Thanks again :D

it deals with a lot of questions like yours. maybe next time try searching the forum more intesively. anyway glad to help!

I did read that thread. I bookmarked it.

I knew that some cables required some modifications because of that thread.

The problem is that I didn't find any thread regarding the MK3008GAL and its cable. Now that you have helped me I am more confident

    hahaha... yes sir XD

I just made the mod yesterday, it took me 3 hours because of the cable "sanding" and other stuff. And my hard drive from Hong Kong arrived yesterday (I live in Mexico City)

Let me upload some pics and rest a bit since it took me another 3 hours to install xp and restore the ssd backup.

    I'll post more details later.

OK, here it is, my report on HDD replacement and RAM upgrade. It's in spanish but you might be interested in viewing the benchmark pics.

Reemplazo de SSD y aumento de RAM - Acer Aspire One
    http://electrolinks.blogspot.com/2009/0 ... -acer.html

So I can confirm that the MK3008GAL drive and the KVR533D2S4/1G Kingston RAM... work.

The original flat cable did require sanding but worked OK.

    hehe thanks XD

Yeah, a better graphics card would make it perfect. There is the mini pci-e option though. But, I don't want to solder another pci-e slot just to add the card
