Does anyone else mod or customise tablets or e-readers as well as laptops?

The best tablet mod I have seen was a Kobo e-reader modded to act as a Debian tablet with the awesome desktop. I'll admit, when he put his files up, I promptly pulled them down and now I have one of my own. It's not very powerful, can't go on the Kobo website without them wiping it, and connecting to a PC is a pain (it will only really connect to my Puppy Linux laptop) but at the same time it is very easy on the eyes for long term use. Thanks to Calibre it can still read ebooks. Now I'm trying to get it to pick up a bluetooth keyboard to act as a mini-laptop.

Does anyone else do something similar?

Well, I do that sometimes. You see, i don't have much use for one of the tablets so I keep experimenting with it. It came with android 4.0 and then I modded it and put ubuntu mobile on it last year. That didn't work out as planned. Things like bluetooth just simply stopped working for some reason. Then I tried some modded android ROMs. I was looking for something really really secure just to see how paranoid I could get with security, so I tried Cynogen, and what not. Eventually, I just went back to what the tab was made for, installed Jellybean and just downloaded a nice futuristic theme. The tab now sits at the desk in my home office as a clock. But, I keep looking for ideas on xda and other forums. If I find one enticing enough, I will give it a try for sure :)

Well, if changing the operating system counts then doing stuff like jail breaking your tablet will count as modding, very rarely you see any type of actual hardware modding of a tablet so that scene is limited to software related hacks. I've seen some cool stuff though like a dude attaching a wireless charger thing to a tablet but not much more, I think people feel that it is easier to experiment with stuff like arduinos or raspberry pis than to destroy a tablet and not being able to improve anything about it.

There are plenty of rooted laptops in the market. The trouble is that you have to run a systemic check to see as to the authenticity, compatibility and functionality of the hardware and software. Its possible to mod your laptop to bypass battery charging which is better than purchasing new staff which is cheaper in the long run.
