    What causes a modem to loose its connection without dropping carrier? My US Robotics modem often looses its connection (can no longer get on the internet), but the modem retains carrier. In order to get back online I have to disconnect and redial. What causes this?

    You need to put your netbook details in your signature field and give details of your connection speed/type before anyone can attempt to answer this question. The problem could be timing out because of modem initialisation string settings, but without details my guess is that you are running Windows XP and it is a Windows configuration issue.
