Hello, I am considering purchasing either the 120 or 160 GB Acer Aspire One with XP (depending on price), but wanted to make sure there is a modem already installed. I had to send back the Asus Eee-pc as it had a modem plug but no actual modem. Don't want to make the same mistake here. Thank you.

There is no modem at all in AA1. You can use external one connected via USB: 3G or standard V92.

Good question -- what is the status of the speculation about the HSPDA slot in the AA1? Is it connected to anything, or not?

There is no proprietary slot in any model at the market... Even newest models aren't equipped in miniPCI connector...

Thank you for the information -- guess I won't be getting one as I see no use in getting a mini-computer and have to carry an external modem around with me.

Well why not check out Ebay for a NEC mobilepro 780, 790 or 900 nice keyboard and it has a modem. Not a netbook but I own all three along with my AA1.

That's what I do. All I have to plug into the AA1 is a piddly little Bluetooth adapter. Mind you, it's not HSPDA, and I can't afford one that is :(

I have the MobilPro, but wanted to upgrade to a more powerful computer with built-in storage.

I spoke with Amazon Computer folks this morning, and he said the new 160 GB Acer One will have a modem. They are backordered until late October, but I wondered if anyone here has the new one and can verify Amazon's claim? I couldn't find anything on the Acer website. Thanks.

That was lie apparently... Guys in US and Canada already have 160GB model and they checked that for me - there is no modem connector in AA1...
