    Hi all

I have an Aspire one KAV50 that i have upgraded to windows 7. All was working ok for a while, then the screen brightness began to dim when I was on battery power. I have gone in and changed my power setting, so when on battery my screen would be on full brightness. This has not helped. I have to use the FN key and arrows to brighten. How can I fix this?

    Thanks
    Charlie

    Try this:
    * Unplug the power so you're running on battery.
    * Use the Fn key combo to put your brightness up to maximum
    * Plug the AC in, wait a few seconds and unplug it again.

The AAO should remember where the brightness setting was for both battery power and AC power. If that doesn't work, double check your power settings by going into the advanced menu. It might also help to hover your mouse over the power icon in the task bar when on AC vs Battery, it may be automatically changing power schemes when unplugged, so you might be mistakenly altering the wrong power settings.

    Hi

I tried increasing the prightness and replugging it in and removing. As soon as I unplugged the power the screen dimmed. I went in and checked my settings under advanced, and it shows max brightness on battery????

Which power scheme are you using? Does the power scheme change automatically when you unplug the machine?

I am using balanced right now, but I have changed it to my own custom as well to try to stop the screen changing. In my custom scheme, I had it set up so the screen would never dim, and set the brightness to max. But it still reverted back to the dimmer screen.

It could be a software issue with Windows itself, or a driver issue. My D250 remembers how dim/bright the screen is when I unplug the AC lead.

Unfortunately this is probably my last idea, but, unplug the AC lead, set the brightness and reboot before plugging AC back in, see if it stays at the same level.

    Hi

Yup, I have done that, and it still reboots to the dimmer setting...

Have you got all the latest drivers and software installed? More specifically the graphics drivers and the Acer ePowerManagement if required.

As far as I know I do. Is there anyway to tell if I am up-to-date?

Unfortunately my D250 doesn't require the ePowerManagment addon, so I couldn't tell you about that one. As for the drivers, if you go into your device manager and right click on your graphics adapter, you can find the driver version in there. Match that against what's written on Acers website and you'll be able to tell. A higher number obviously means a later driver. If the graphics drivers on Acers site are updated, chances are reasonably good that the ePowerManagement app is updated too.

Either way, I'd re-download and reinstall both, just to make sure there's no driver or registry errors causing the dimming issue.

I have checked and everything is up-to date. I think I will just live with this very minor issue, before I create a bigger problem for myself...
    Thanks for the help.

Last resort would be a complete factory reset, the F10 option at boot time, but if you've upgraded to Win7 the recovery will probably over-write that. Final suggestion would be to reinstall Windows 7 from scratch.
