Fifteen months after I bought my Aspire One notebook, the on/off switch stopped working. I have just been told that the motherboard has to be replaced which will be "quite an expensive procedure".

Has anyone else had this problem, or do you know of anyone who has?

Did you try removing the battery and holding the power button down for a minute? Clears any fault held in the bios.

Motherboard fauilures appears to happen often on the AOA110/150 models.
Some component in the battery/charging circuit of the motherboard fails.
Acer sure timed the length of warranty correctly.

Acer eventually agreed to take back my desktop out of warranty and diagnosed a faulty motherboard. The computer was returned to me and almost immediately began to malfunction. I took it straight back to Acer who checked it and found that the new motherboard was also faulty. They replaced it and I have had no troubles since. :p
