i need help understanding exactly how to download the codex for mplayer to watch avi's.

i have an acer aspire one with linux linpus and i can hear the movies from my external drive but i can't see them through mplayer.

can someone let me know which files to download rom the mplayer website and how to load them up using the terminal

i am so frazzled because it is like reading spanish. i am so not familiar with linux at at.

any help is grateful and patience is good because i will ask a million questions before i get it right.

Not a matter of missing codecs. The bundled mplayer and rebranded Cyberlink PowerCinema (uses some modified mplayer I think) are both intentionally crippled. mplayer uses libavcodec for decoding most things including XviD which is used for most avi's you will come across.

You can remove mplayer and re-install from the rpmfusion repository to get a fully functional version. Won't help Media Master (PowerCinema) though, since it appears to use its own modified binary.

    Hi,
    Open a terminal and enter
    Code:
    sudo update mplayer
This works for a few things.
