Well, I bought one of the first (blue) AAOns, and I have been having a lot of trouble... I was replacing the SSD with a 30GB HDD and adding a GB of RAM, so I thought I might as well do some beauty-modding... I painted it black! It looks a lot better in person (when you're not using a flash...), but I couldn't be bothered to take proper pictures. It looks good even in sunlight, and you don't get fatty-finger-marks (non glossy paint). I also cut a hole in the floor beneath the fan, since I won't be using it.
Running Win7 Beta now, it's really fast. Faster than XP :)

    Very ugly fan-hole:

I know it looks like shit, but I won't be looking underneath my one much ;)
Also, silicone is hard to paint.. might just buy some black silicone and slap on top.

If you want to paint your AAO, don't be afraid. It's very easy :)

    Thanks GvidoR :)

Here it is next to its former twin.
I'm considering painting the keyboard too.

It actually does look better than the blue one. With that paint on there are no fingerprints right?
What color are you going to paint your keyboard?

Nope, no fingerprints at all :)

I was thinking about using the same colour and paint for the keyboard, but I probably won't do it unless I can pick up a spare one somewhere.. Just in case I miss the symbols, even if it's highly unlikely that I will.

That's just a mock up I did in PhotoShop, but I don't think it would affect my typing much. I don't usually look down =)

out of curiosity, how is the paint holding up?

is the mouse pad still just as sensitive?

finally, what paint/process did you use to paint the little booger?

Still not a scratch, but I have not been handling it carelessly.

Touchpad is fine, just as good as it ever was.

I just sanded it down and use regular hobby paint I bought at a hardware store. Acrylic I guess.

    Hehe, thanks jerry!

I'm sure you can do it yourself, just remember to use lots of thin layers ;)
    I think I did 6 or 7.

Did you use primer before paint layers? Also wondering what kind of paint did you used? Is it polyurethane paint, that is very durable?

    I did not prime it.

I used "tough coat acrylic alkyd enamel spray paint". That's all the can says, I have no idea what it's really composed of :)
It does seem really strong tho, still no scratches.

What grit sanding paper did you use? 800? I'm thinking of doing this mod this weekend.
