Well, not so random, as I noticed that ANY TIME I EVEN TOUCH IT LIGHTLY, it now shuts down, completly, as if it lost power!

    Here's the specs:
    AOD250.
I pulled the ram, and replaced it with a 2 GB compatible ram chip.
Pulled the harddrive, placed a blank 500 GB one in, installed Win XP Pro and installed all the extra drivers and whatnot from the jumpdrive I saved them to before doing this.
I use it almost all the time, as I'm always on the go. And in the few months I've had it, I've never bumped it hard, never mistreated it, never done anything wrong. This thing is practically BRAND FREAKING NEW from radio shack for god's sakes!
The first time I noticed this problem was at home of all places. I was checking my online stocks, and go to pick it up (gently, like I always do), and when I place it on the kitchen counter (which was DRY, I thought about water too but that's not it), it died! it completly shut on me! I thought "ok.. must have been doing an update or something and I missed the reboot alert" but it didn't reboot, it was OFF. so I turn it back on, it seems to work fine. meh.
Couple of days later, I pick it up, and turn it on while in a cab, I want to defrag the harddrive for a bit while I wait to get to the airport. about five minutes in, the cab hits a pot hole, the netbook is slightly jostled in my hands (not even hard enough to change the screen position mind you), and BAM, it's off!

since then, it's gotten worse, to the point that even poking my finger on the touchpad mouse to click on something causes it!

I tried putting the original harddrive and RAM back in, this FAILED. it kept doing the same exact thing.

I even tried flashing the BIOS with the most recent version, fearing it might be something wrong on that end, but to no avail. (and yes I know bios flash is risky business, but it didn't exactly make things any worse, or better)

So what I'm wondering is, can someone PLEASE HELP ME? I usually keep it plugged in so it can't be the battery, I'm gentle with it, I'm not stupid with computers, so it can't be from being dropped. I'm an expert in tweaking systems to max them out (hense the new hardware swaps), so none of that did it.

WHAT THE HELL IS CAUSING THIS?

I don't mean to yell, but I was using this computer for business, and now it just keeps dying on me. What should I do? what have I done wrong? I can't figure it out! Is anyone else having this problem?

thanks for your time and patience.

edit: oh I forgot to mention that lately, if I try to turn it on right after the crash, the power light will light up, but it won't DO ANYTHING else. the screen lights don't even light up half the time. this is unnerving.

    crap.. wrong forum, sorry. ><

any way, I'm going to just get a new netbook of the same type, I think this is a random glitch, and return the old one saying it's messing up. if they test it in the store to see, they can deal with it shutting down on them.

I didn't purchase the stupid extended warrenty, and I lost the original recipt, because I trusted acer to make a good product ><

since nobody complained about this problem, I'll just assume I'm one of those one in a million people who got the crap one.

Same exact problem and scenario here! :x What I have been doing as a countermeasure is upon starting up my netbook, I am very careful not to move it at all and keep it on a flat surface at all times until I can open Firefox (v. 3.5.1) and immeadietly open a two tabs. It doesn't matter what the tab's are but when my Netbook starts to shutdown automatically, Firefox interferes by asking "Do you want Firefox to save your tabs for the next time it starts?" with a box without a check next to "Do not ask me next time", it is important that you keep this unchecked and it gives you the default action of "Save and Quit" and the two other options of "Quit" or "Cancel" clicking cancel will somehow stop the system from shutting down by preventing Firefox from exiting, sometimes I have to click cancel several times since the same thing will happen a second after I hit cancel the first time, but I think you will find that with persistence this action will ultimately prevent your netbook from shutting down. Because of this I think you can't wait too long before hitting Cancel or the mysterious automatic system shut-down process will force close Firefox much like it would if you were to push the power button without holding it down; although I haven't tested this because I always hit cancel Immediately. If you don't get these options with firefox, make sure you have version 3.5.1 installed and restore all settings to the default. However it isn't foolproof because the system somehow disregards Firefox in shutting down instantly when my netbook goes into standby or sleep mode. I would love to know a permanant fix and thought my experience with the Firefox countermeasure might provide insight as to the cause since you seem more experienced with computer's than I; Did you ever figure out what was wrong?

Same problem here on my sons Aspire One Netbook, Loses power when I pick it up, grabbing it with one hand to the right of the mouse pad, something flexes internally and it just dies immediately, also removed the battery and it does the same thing running on only the AC adapter. I'm gonna pull this sucker apart and see if its a flakey connector or cold solder joint.
