    First of all apologies if this is not the correct forum but I am at my wits end. After using my Open Office Writer for a week, I came to use it yesterday and all the commands are in Chinese! I have tried to find a way of changing it back to English but without success. I would appreciate any help anybody can give!

    Many Thanks

    Start OpenOffice with this command:
    Code:
    LANG=en_US ooffice
    Change back to English in Tools>Options>Language Settings>Languages.

    Hi

    Thanks for the reply, do I start open office from the command prompt and type in the
    Lang=en US etc, if so this is a problem as I can't get to the command prompt. I have tried to figure out which chinese words equate to tools, options, language etc but without success.

    Cheers

    Command prompt or the run box (alt-f2) will work. Why can't you get a command prompt?

    You do not run openoffice and then put that in. You put exactly what I put in code to set the environment variable and run ooo in one step.

    Hi

    I can't access the command prompt because, it is years since I used Linux and do not know how to get there from the desktop. Are there keys I can press as the netbook boots that will take me to the command prompt? I tried the alt f2 option but when I entered the command I got an error message saying "file not found" or words to that effect.

    Press ALT-F2 and type
    Code:
    xterm
    Run the command given,
    Code:
    LANG=en_US ooffice
    Does it give errors or start openoffice in English?

    Thanks for the last post, the alt F2, xterm LANG=en_US ooffice opened the software but sadly all the commands were still in Chinese. I have downloaded the file: langpack-en 2.4.1-17.6.fc9.i386.rpm from the Open Office website but everytime I try to copy it over to the laptop it asks for a root password.

    Thanks again for the password. I gave up with the chinese problem in the end and downloaded ooffice 3. My probem is now how do I get the desktop icons to link to the newly installed ooffice 3. Any help very much appreciated.

    I think the way i did it is to go into applications
    /usr/share/applications/
    right click on relevant software (open office 3 in this case), then 'send to' -> 'desktop (create link)'
    i think it automatically gets the right icon
