    This is my new Lavie Light netbook:

    I quickly took the bottom plate off and replaced the hard drive (5400->7200rpm) and memory (1GB DDR2 533 --> 2GB DDR2 800):

    The spec sheet says the max memory is 1GB DDR2 533. So you'd think a 2GB DIMM module would not work, but it does. The only thing is the speed is downclocked from 800 to 667. Still faster than the spec sheet says is possible though.

    Is there any downside to using the faster memory arising from the odd FSB:RAM ratio of 2:5? (133Mhz : 333Mhz) Should I go back to PC2-4200 running at 533 to be the same as the chipset FSB?

    It appears that the memory timings are fixed in BIOS and override the memory SPD. Since from the manufacturers point of view you aren't supposed to upgrade/change the memory I guess. DDR2 800 gets downclocked to DDR2 667, DDR2 533 gets overclocked to DDR 2 667. That latter probably isn't such a bright idea.
