Need help to install OS on D250

Hello all. I am new to the forum so please forgive me if this question has been asked. I am trying to fix my friend's netbook. This machine will only boot up as far as the welcome screen. I purchased recovery discs from Acer. When I installed the system disc via an external dvd drive, nothing happened. I did not get any prompts to install the first recovery disc. I phoned Acer and they want $100.00 to walk me through it. Crazy. Why do the not give you full instructions on how to do this? Does anyone here have instuctions that they can post so that I may try to do the installation? Thanks in advance. Ps. I did follow the instructions posted on their website but I got no prompts when I should have to put in the first recovery disc.

 

Hit F2 when the system starts to go into BIOS and make sure you have selected your optical drive as the first preference device to boot from.
