    I have aMSN 0.96 installed.
When I start it, I get a request about updating to 0.98.1.
If I run this update patch, I get a message saying "Update Successful", but a version check tells me that aMSN has NOT been updated after all.
The next time I start aMSN, I get the same question once more.

How do I uninstall 0.96, so I can make a fresh install of 0.98.1 ?

(I'm quite new to Linux, so please explain in detail)

Which Linux distro are you using? Ideally, you'd update through your distro's package manager.

I use the distro that came pre-installed on the Aspire One when I bought it.
Linpus Lite may be it's name ?

Linpus Lite it is. Linpus Lite is a derivative of Fedora Linux, which is a fast-moving bleeding-edge type of distribution. Linpus Lite was based on Fedora 8. Fedora releases a new version approximately every six months; Fedora 12 was just released last month.

Looking at the amsn website, it appears that you need Tcl/Tk 8.5. Apparently Version 8.5 never shipped for Fedora 8; Fedora 9 was the first release to include it. Bottom line - it might be possible to upgrade only those pieces needed for amsn without breaking Linpus, but I wouldn't try it without a good backup (or the intent to trash Linpus in favor of a more recent distro).
