Do you mean you added more holes on the RAM cover? My RAM cover has enough holes, but it still remains the most hot area of the netbook... I just hope it will not melt in the future!

As for the resolution, which exactly do you use? I thought that the 1366x768 was the standard and could not be altered by another resolution. :?

Hi all frustrated yet hopeful 751h Users,..

Has anyone tried the latest BIOS 3211? Did it fix the freezing problem? ;)

No, they did replace the whole laptop with a new one. I didn't check if the motherboard has a different number, but I remember that my old 751 contained a Seagate hard drive while this contained a Hitachi. The hard drive was not the cause of the issue anyway: I swapped the original one with a WD Scorpio Blue (320 GB) and on the old 751 I kept getting freezes, while the new one doesn't freeze (whith the Hitachi and with the WD). So, you should not change the HD.

[EDIT: I also noticed that I can overclock my new 751 via SetFSB, while the old one wouldn't let me. I tested the OC up to 1500 MHz without any problem.]

Performance may increase or decrease depending on what kind of module you're planning to install. Generally speaking, larger (in GB) and faster (in MHz) memory performs better, but keep in mind that each motherboard can only accept a certain range of sizes and speeds. In the specific case of the 751, the main performance limiter is the processor, not the RAM, so you can't expect too much benefit by changing the RAM (2 GB is anyway always better than 1 GB, especially when running Vista or 7). If by "performance" you mean stability instead, I would suggest to try changing the RAM since more than one forum member solvevd the freezing issue that way. Be careful on the model of RAM you choose though: some work and some do not. And look for someone who can lend a module to you before buying something that might not do the trick.

    Bye

When a system freezes is about 2 things. Overheating, Incompatibles Drivers or Hardware (Or Hardware malfunction) in last case i believe u should check the ramm memory (Sometimes it's the memory slot instead the memory ramm).

    Lo all

Nice way to delurk - by having issues :\

I bought my 0751h last month, on impulse, before seeing the various issues people are having, which irritatingly, are affecting me...

According to the Asus registration website, my specific model is the AO751H-52BB - shipped with 1GB RAM and a 160GB Hitachi hard drive, and started freezing (noticeably) about a week or so after I got it.

I've tried various things so far -

    a) the DEP tweak (/execute)
    b) I've switched the RAM to a 2GB PNY module
    c) Disabling GMA500 performance mode
    d) Disabling GMA500 write combining
    e) Updating BIOS to 3211
    f) Updating Synaptics touchpad control version to 7.2 (Synaptics_v14_0_3_C_XP32_Vista32_Win7-32_Signed_default.exe)
    g) Disabling all "chiralmotion"/pinchzoom options (leaving only horizontal/vertical & two finger scrolling enabled)
    h) Manually (force) updating Intel system drivers to 8.8.0.1001

Don't know if anyone else noticed, but the memory cover panel (at least on my model) has a sticker on the inside *completely* covering the vent gaps - which I also removed (and can re-stick) to see if that assisted things...but it didn't....

Predominantly it *does* seem to go when scrolling, but earlier I left it on whilst it was defragging, went out for 40 mins and it was dead when I got back (screen saver stuck on screen)

I've just installed AA1FanControl and set it to start the fan at 50C (i.e. all the time), and I'll keep an eye to see if it goes at a set temperature.

Also, I cant seem to get SetFSB to work (any version) - any clues?

So, do I offload my data and return it? Or does anyone else have any cunning ideas?

FYI I registered my machine using the onboard program, and got an email with an STDREG code, which the returns website refuses to recognise....(and I couldn't face an argument with the offshore call centre earlier - who instantly referred me to the "Comet specialist line" )

    Hi,

I think I have solved the problem. I changed the following seetings on my graphics card and it seems not to freeze anymore. I have used it for 4 days now, and everything seems fine. i remeber a post earlier on, and they did the same thing under Win 7, and it fixed their issue as well. It may be related to some power saving function on the graphics card.

    The changes I made were:

Under Options in Graphics - Enable Performance Mode is ticked
Under Power Settings - tick the Intel Display power Saving Technology, and drag the pointer to maximum quality

Since then, may netbook hasn't frozen once, when it used to freeze every couple of hours. I tried all the other fixes in this forum and nothing else seemed to work. Try it out and see if it fixes your issues. I have also used the latest GMA drivers from the Intel website, and updated the BIOS to 3211. These didn't fix the issue until I made the graphics card changes.

    Anton.

At the beginning of the year I bought an A0751h as an upgrade to my old faithful ZG5, a great little computer (with a few little quirks). The A0751h started freezing up from the first hour I had it. It has made its second trip back to the Repair center over 3 weeks ago and still no info. The first time they reinstalled the XP operating system (gee thanks guys) even though I noted that any vibration or taps seem to lock the thing up, as well as the pure out of the blue freeze ups.

What is the magic phrase I need to use when talking to the repair center to get a new computer or a new motherboard/hard drive?

Just say yes to anything that they ask you if you have tried, e.g. reinstall Windows XP, install latest GMA500 driver, update drivers, use the Ubuntu, checking the ram ventilation etc.

    Good luck!

mine is perfectly stable, but only after sending it to Acer in Texas. They replaced my motherboard and so far I haven't had any single freeze. Before sending it to Acer it used to freeze constantly, giving me BSOD, sometimes it wouldn't even turn on, there would appear some stripes on screen and freeze when I was using it, so I had to hard restart, it was a pain in the "gut" to use this little machine.

Now I am completely happy with it, I've been using it for 3 weeks and no freezing issue at all. You should try sending it to Acer to see if they replace your MB, that solved my problem 100%

FYI, it was the very 1st time that I was sent my 751h to Acer.

I got my A0751H back from repairs in Texas today. They replaced the motherboard, the memory module, card reader, card reader cable and reloaded the operting system. That only took since January 11th, the first time I sent it in ($13 in shipping costs). Today is March 3rd. But I have to admit I am pretty happy to have it back. I ran 4 straight hours of Prime95 stress test without a hitch. I will post again in a few days on whether it has been stable or not.

My system, Windows Pro 32bit, BIOS 3211, GMA driver 2023. I had a couple of freezes yesterday, so this combination does not work for me... but I really wish it would!

There must be differences in the hardware then. I keep getting those rare freezings, even though I am with latest BIOS and always keep my drivers updated... :?
