So I dropped my aspire one. It cut off right as it fell. I booted it back up and it made the classic hard drive scratch sound. I can still boot into the bios and everything. So I was wondering if I get a big SD card could I boot from that or should I crack it open and install an new hard drive.

You can't boot from an SD card in the SD card slot. You can, however, boot from a USB flash drive (including an SD card in a USB adapter)
