Strange- It says it supports Z530 mb however ALL our 751's have a Z530 so surely it already does? Or maybe this is what the freezing issue was? It's a pity they dont release notes iwth these BIOS updates!

One possible implementation in this BIOS release could be the support for newer, faster RAM modules, such as DDR2-667 @ 333MHz and DDR2-800 @ 400MHz, so if someone has one one of these RAM modules and updates the BIOS to 3211 it would be interesting to see if the freezing problem continues.

In addition, this new BIOS upgrade could resolve IRQ/DMA conflicts and/or regulate the CPU speed. Mine came factory-set to 1,33GHz (and not 1,30GHz, as I have heard).
All these are assumptions, since I don't have any information on the subject.

Since I stopped have freezing for the last couple of weeks, I do not intend to upgrade the BIOS, but I would be interested to see if it works for some of you folks out there!

All our wonderful 751h (should) have Z520.

Maybe they are preparing an upgraded High Power 751h    LOL

That's right, Z520 is the right one for our 751h netbooks.

About a year ago, there were rumors about an 11,6 inch netbook by Acer, powered by a Z530 Atom CPU @ 1,6GHz:

    http://www.slashgear.com/116-inch-acer- ... e-2338458/
    http://www.aeato.com/news/acer-aspire-o ... -ghz.html/

and a norwegian review mentions that "The processor in our test PC was Intel's new Atom Z520 processor at 1.33GHz, but the machine will also come with a Z530 processor at 1.6 GHz." !!

I haven't heard anything like that before...

Ok, so I installed the new BIOS. Can't say that I see any difference at the moment. Guess I'll see how things go over the next couple of days.

Could you please provide us with more info? Was the update completed successfully and now the netbook won't turn on?
Did you see any error messages that you ignored during the update?

If you can at least get into the BIOS, I think there is a way to boot an older BIOS version from a USB stick. I can provide you with more information, or you could Google it.

I am not sure about what you can do in this case, but I would try to contact an Acer support tech and explain the situation. It is surely not your fault, so there should be no extra charge for this.

Sometimes explaining too much is not the best. Acer clearly states that bios upgrade is at own risk. Perhaps better to say that the the netbook has been freezing and now it will not start at all any more. They support people are more skilled in rejecting than solving.

After I had a 'freeze' in windows whilst performing a BIOS upgrade, I will be flashing from DOS from now on.

I would suggest people do the same as the freezing problem combined with a BIOS upgrade = bricked netbook

You've got a point here. Could you please describe the procedure of flashing the BIOS in DOS?

easy bro, just get a little program called HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool, use it to format a usb key or any kind of memory card (under 2gb, dos only runs on FAT), also download FREEdos so that you have dos startup files for the format, the program will show you how, then place the dos bios update on your key or card and then reboot into it, then run the update

Never do a windows bios update, they are very unreliable, especially on these machines

I flashed this bios update using the installer from Windows 7.

    Works just fine for me.

I haven't really tried anything that would make me notice a difference but hopefully this update will improve performance.

Thanks for the info brew crew. It seemed too much fuzz to me, so I successfully installed BIOS 3211 via Windows installer last night.
I haven't seen anything different so far, but during the weekend I am gonna do a crash test including Google Earth and see what's happening with the conflicts.

After my BIOS update failed, my AO551h won't turn on at all. The only signs of life are the ON LED and battery LED.

Is there anything that can be done here?

Unfortunately, this does not work for AO551h, nothing happens when I try to follow these instructions.

BTW, Acer support is telling me the following:

Please be informed that flashing the wrong BIOS can cause harm to the system. Acer recommends that you should only upgrade your firmware/drivers if you have been instructed to do so by an Acer Customer Care representative.

By using these firmware/drivers you agree to accept the possibility of product failure.

If you are interested, we can pull your computer for depot repair. However we are extremely sorry to tell that Acer cannot give warranty advantages. That means you will have to pay for the service and parts replaced. The cost for repairs will be 199$ USD. Please note that you have to pay one-way shipping charge for making a depot repair. If you are ready for Depot Repair please confirm it in your reply mail.

Of course, I will not pay the cost of service which is almost equal to the price of a new netbook... And it is under warranty!

Any other ideas..? This is a useless piece of hardware, so I guess I can try anything. :(

    Thank you.
