    Re: New BIOS 3307a

what is this "power consumption.xls", any chance of that being available?

also, do you know which bios revision consumes the least amount of power?

    Re: New BIOS 3307a

I updated my Bios to 3307a it freezes up the keyboard when you're running dual boot OS. I can't choose the second OS to boot.I just revert it back to 3305. I'll just wait until the official New Bios is released.

3307 new bios result in a reduction of idle power use of under 8W, hovering around 7.6W-7.7W for me (note, I have the flicker panel, so brightness is still high for me, it'll even be better for people with nonflicker panel)

conclusion: I feel 3307 can potentially provide 1%-5% increase in battery life.

This version causes (apparently) a problem when using the Windows boot menu for multibooting. The keyboard becomes inoperable while the menu is up. This is correctable by reverting to the prior Bios (3.305).

ok, the C4 timing disabled my XD Bit for CPU, pcie break event, I dunno about that, but I want the XD bit enabled!!! it was enabled when i had BIOS 3305. BIOS 3307 is kind of like 3304 without XD bit.

I'm still stuck with the limited brightness control. :(
Never experienced any problem with flickering on the original 3109 BIOS...

According to the changelog you got 10 shades of brightness before, but the lowest level was about 50% and each step was smaller. If you have a "non-flicker" backlight this BIOS still gives you 10 steps but the lowest is 23%. My lowest setting got dimmer, so I'm happy; I can use the machine at work in dim light again. I tried to measure the brightness using a digital camera as a light meter (lock aperture and ISO and look at the shutter speeds), and the range is now about a factor of 3. Unfortunately I didn't measure it before the 3307 upgrade.

I'm dual booting with XP and Vista. There's no keyboard problems here while using 3307.

Hehe, yeah, if you want to get technical. But the 1% gradations were not perceptible to me. I seem to have lucked out on my AAO: no flicker problem, no fan noise, no wireless problems, yay! :D

Under vista, under system properties, go to 'advanced' tab, and click the Settings... under the performance box, click Data Execution Prevention and it will say that its disable, and I checked it with Everest, and it surely says XD bit is disable. :(

try running this at a command prompt

    bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx OptIn

reboot and see if you can enable it. If that doesn't work, try this

    bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOn

Again, reboot, and see what happens.

Check the status of DEP by using this command.

    wmic OS Get DataExecutionPrevention_SupportPolicy

in your case, you dont' want to see the number 0 returned. 1-3 is good.

Another positive report about flashing to version 3307. I was at stock version 3305 and just upgraded to 3307 via a boot using a USB flash drive to FreeDOS, as per macles instructions. My main reason for upgrading was to be able to lower the brightness--I use the AAO as an ebook reader, amongst many other things, and it's been just too bright at night. The brightness level goes lower now, though I wouldn't mind an even lower bottom setting for nighttime use.

My OS is Windows XP SP3. For fan control, I use a1ctl version 0.4, and it is still working just fine. Also, FWIW, the Intel graphics card utility reports my display as serial number AUO11c2. And the BIOS screen does report my version as 3307.

    Upgraded to 3307 without problems...

One thing bugs the sh** out of me though: I can't lower the screen brightness as low as before. Apparently I have a "flicker defected screen".. Except that I DIDN'T!

    Kinda annoying... :|
