I'm using the same BIOS under my japanese AO150 without any problems. The original BIOS 3304 was also English only.

    Here:
    ftp://ftp.acer-euro.com/netbook/aspire_one_150/bios/
You will find the file v.3309.zip - 2,956,837 bytes.
Unzip that package and you will see the usual BIOS package, plus a subfolder called "Winflash".
Open that folder and run InsydeFlash.exe
It will prompt you to select the BIOS image 3309.fd (which is already copied in that folder for your convenience). Follow the prompt and after a minute or two the program will finish the flash and force a reboot, and you are done!

There is a doc file in that folder with instructions in engrish along with some poor quality generic screen shots, but...

To be safe it will not allow you to run the flash without the AC power connected, and it would be best to have all other applications closed and extra USB devices disconnected.

I did the winflash to 3309 a couple weeks ago (before the whole package was all in one place on the euro ftp site) and it worked fine. And easier than the USB boot drive alternative.

Just waiting now to see if this finally solves the erstwhile black screen crisis fail issue.

    BIOS 3301

Hi, I have Bios 3301 with Win XP. Everything is working fine for me except the whining fan is getting louder and annoying. Will update to 3309 solves the fan noise issue? Or there is a nice and quiet fan out there I can just buy and replace the noisy fan?

BTW, I am using AA1FanControl to control the fan on/off. What is the safe temperature to set on Fan On and Fan Off?

Thank you very much for your advises.

    Re: BIOS 3301

It might help a bit but the noise won't stop.
I wanted to ask about replacing the fan as well...
The processor can handle 90C so look for your self.
I'm using A1CTL and my configurations are:

    Turn off: 60C
    Slow mode: 65C
    Auto mode: 70C

SpeedFan says that the temperature is 10C lower that A1CTL tells me.
I kind of believe that SpeedFan is more accurate... ;)

yes, indeed the black screen crisis was fixed a while ago, I found that 3114 (i know, black screen) saves more battery than 3309 due to that fact that my screen flickers awfully a lot on battery power.

I did the update in Windows, once it flashed the bios the computer would die about 30seconds after you power it on. I did the fn+esc procedure and now it seems to be working now. I'm struggling to see the benefits of flashing it. I guess the fan is a little bit quieter now at least.

that's odd, did you do everything correctly? remove BIOS password?
probably your aspire one was programmed differently :?

Exactly the same thing happened on mine, I've tried twice (re-downloading), but it just won't work on my Acer. Had to remove battery to shut down!
I'm running XP Pro SP3 with all latest updates. Everything else was closed down in windows, utility just says 'verify error' then locks up the Acer!

Has anyone got this to work ok for them using windows flash tool with BIOS 3309 from Acer link above?

My acer one (recently bought in Asda deal), 160gb hdd, 1.5gb ram, XP Pro sp3

I updated mine from that link last night and it worked a treat.

Simply downloaded to my desktop, plugged into the mains and pressed the button. After a minute or so it rebooted and working perfectly :)

    hi all ,
finally i successfully upgraded my one's bios. i found the solution here http://macles.blogspot.com/search?updat ... results=12 on the bottom of the page. just simply rename the 3309 bios with ZG5IA32.FD and use fn+esc and power button. this worked for me. now i'm waiting to see if there is any problem with bios.
many 10x to macles. i'll keep intouch with any troubles.

We just got our machine a few days ago and it came with 3305 bios. Now I tried the method with in the first post. I followed it to a T. No soap. I might have found the issues. Firstly. Does the usb stick need to be in the left plug in side? Also. When the files are extracted into a folder on the usb drive. Do I need to remove them from the folder and then throw the files any where on the usb drive for they can be read? I am guessing since they are in a folder. They cannot be read.

I thought I would still give it a try. Now when booting up with the usb stick. And when that program is trying to load. I get an image error and it reboots itself. Ugh Acer makes it so difficult to upgrade!

Just updated mine from 3301 to 3309 using the windows flash, worked fine. This machine is also an ASDA £150 bargain.

I updated to 3309 from 3305. I used winflash from Windows 7, with a 9-cell battery I got from gogo-power (I ordered the cheap one). After the update the netbook shut itself down 3 times. I then replaced the 9-cell battery with the original 3-cell battery. After that the machine seemed to work just fine, it did not shut itself down..... after a few minutes I shut the machine down again and put the 9-cell battery back in.... no problems. It's been about 45 minutes and the machine has not shut itself down. I don't know why replacing the original battery would of changed anything, but it seemed to fix what ever was causing the problem. The only other thing that I can think of is that mabey the netbook was going to shut itself down exactly 3 times anyways (for what ever changes it needed). Now that I think about it.... I did have a USB hard drive connected to the machine at the time, and I disconnected it at the same time that I replaced the original 3-cell battery. I hope this post helps someone else.

Downgrade to an older version to see if that fixes the problem.
