    Hi,

I'm thinking of upgrading my 751h's HDD, right now I have a measly 160GB. My question is can I copy my current HDD's content over to a new HDD such as operating system and stuff so I could just put in and carry on like nothing has changed?

    Thanks.

P.s. I want to upgrade my RAM to 2GB can I just buy any or does it have to be a certain type?

My advise is to "manufacture" recovery disks from the original hard drive and then after putting the new hard drive in, boot on the recovery CD's. This of course is assuming you have access to an external CD drive. I think you might be able to do the same thing from a memory stick, but I'm not sure how you would go about getting the recovery files on such a device.

My suggestion, would be to run the e-recovery manager and make backup's of the recovery partition/boot discs. From what I remember it requires 2 blank DVD's or 9 Blank CD's (total size of the recovery disks = 5 or so GB ) and an external CD/DVD burner. As for your current installation of windows and any other files, I would go with something like norton ghost or if you don't have the cash, clonezilla.

Also, if you wouldn't mind making an extra copy of those recovery discs or even sending the ISO/image files my way; I would greatly appreciate it.

Another option, if you have access to the equipment, is to use a program like Acronis TrueImage, or similar. These programs come with Hard Drive Cloning features. Long story short, you can quickly and easily copy all the partitions (and the data contained within them) to a new hard drive and boot up as if nothing happened (except if you installed a larger drive, youlll have more space)

    You might need:
    * Acronis TrueImage - there might be a free edition, or if you have a Seagate HDD there, you should be able to use the free software provided by Seagate (which is actually a rebadged version of Acronis TrueImage), this is one of the many available programs you'll need to clone your drive
    * An external USB CD/DVD-RW drive - used to boot the Acronis TrueImage software into a proprietary DOS environment to enable direct access to the hard drives
    * An external USB hard drive caddy - The idea being that you install the new hard drive into the AAO, attach the old drive to the USB caddy use the Acronis software to clone the old drive to the new one
