newbie to buying..HELP PLEASE!!

I have previously a dell 15 45 and a Packard note (i think it's called) the note is completely slow and outdated whereas the Dell is slow and also the screen has broken. So I want to buy a new laptop for browsing and doing some work on it (nothing fancy) I want it to be fast though not to lag at all. Iv seen a few but haven't got the slightest clue all I know is i7 is the best processor out there, And more ram the better?? I would appreciate it if you guys could help me out as I need to purchase a laptop as soon as .
