Has anyone who has installed windows used the application nlite to rip out any of the 'bulk'?

I ordered the 8gb ssd model with the intention of putting xp on after hearing these slow reports I am slightly doubtful. Is the eeepc and msi wind slow with windows on ssd?

going along these lines, could always try the likes of TinyXP, which is designed to be very fast.

That's what I was actually thinking of installing. The rev9 of it.

Just got the ISO for TinyXP rev09, hope fully I can find time to do an actual installation. I am quite fearful, however, as to driver availability.

I've read that someone got better speeds formatting the disc as FAT32 instead of NTFS for WinXP. Might be worth a shot.

    Edit: Mentioned here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=57

    my very special tip is:

forget about nlite... use xp embedded. this is a full featured xp, that has many more options and the same funcionallity! you can chose between multiuser or minilogon and specify exactly, which parts you will need. the firewall is much better, than the standard xp version, it is much more customizable, and : (tartarata!) you can install it on a usb drive! - so no false xp limitations towards portable medias!

OK - some good ideas here but does anyone know if the following will work with either XP Embedded or Tiny XP:-

    Slingbox client
    MS Office 2003 or 2007
Vodafone Mobile Connect for 3G USB adaptor

    Thanks.

I am running XP on my Aspire and it is running pretty well but wouldnt' mind changing to either XP embedded or Tiny XP if these are a better option.

Can't decipher much from the links, so what exactly is Windows Embedded, from what I read, it looked more like a development platform than an OS.

    yip,

xp embedded (xpe) has the full functionallity of xp! even offers more tweaks and possibilities. but it is just the os - you can install anything else that works with xp ...

    Sounds great :)

How can I get a hold of XP embedded though? I have not seen it in the usual places.

    Thanks
