So, when i type nm-applet in terminal-this is what i get-but it connect itself automatically. Don´t know if that something means...

    [user@localhost ~]$ nm-applet
** Message: <info> ----ted: get priority is 33

    ** (nm-applet:10165): CRITICAL **: nm_connection_get_setting: assertion `NM_IS_CONNECTION (connection)' failed

But when i shut down terminal-nm-applet disappears and i need to press my starter....

    Just had this.

Fixed it by running "nmbd & " and then the nm-connection-editor with sudo. Haven't rebooted yet though >.> .

I finally gave up and solved the problem the brutal way: restoring the system.

Now I face a dilemma: should I run Live Update? :?:

PRO: Most updates are useful and fix bugs.

CON: I may get this same Network Connection problem all over again, forcing me to restore the system again. :(

IDEA: In the Terminal, one can type:

    sudo sed -i.bak s:Critical:Optional: /usr/bin/onlineupdate

    Source: http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/09/opti ... e-one.html

That gives you the option of unchecking some of the updates. Unfortunately, it's not clear which is the update that messes up the Network Center.

What do those who have solved this problem think?

It seems that there is already .gconf.orig. That is why 'mv' tries to move .gconf into the .gconf.orig directory. You can rename it to something else though. ('mv' renames a file/directory when it doesn't exist)
And also the mv command needs the '-r' flag so it knows to descend into subdirectories. Try:
    mv -r .gconf .gconf.backup

So, i will repeat-if someone has any clue. My nm-applet and network manager are working just fine-only after hibernation i need to activate nm-applet by pressing the starter that i made in icon tray. It seems as computer forgets to activate it after hibernation. I looked autostart files but i don´t think that i can find anything. The password is remembered.

Same thing as yours.. cant use my nm applet after shutting down terminal, it also shuts down on its own.. any recommendation for this? :(
i nid help very badly.. my A1 is useless without connections.

Though i can connect by just leaving the terminal open.. but it is so odd.. I cant restore to the previous nm-applet after startup, or shutdown :( by the way, how did you create the starter? thnx..

wawasoulseeker, first-check if your nm-applet exists (but i think it does when you activated it in terminal) - it should be in: /usr/bin/nm-applet
    .
    Starter:
    1) press Alt + F2
    2) in window that opens (not in Terminal) type: xfce4-panel-a
    3) than it should open some programm (i have german version so i don´t know if translation is ok) "insert objects to icon tray" or something like that
    4) doubleclick first icon (by me it stays starter
    5) you have to fill 4 fields-first two are just describing-put what ever you want: e.g.
    Name: nm-applet
    Description: wifi
Under these field you have some that beginns with some kind of star-just press that star and choose some icon:
The last field is only important- you have to put exactly order for nm-applet: by me it is:
Then should this icon apperar in a icon tray next to shutdown. When you need wifi you press that icon and nm-applet should automatically show up-if you are lucky, even your password will be remembered...

If you want to remove starter, just type Alt+f2, in window that opens (not in Terminal) type: xfce4-panel-a, and take icon with your mouse and put it back up anywhere in that open window (you´ll be asked would you remove the starter)

I type to much, but it is not complicated
    Hope it helps

    hi vickoxy !
thanks for the effort!! i have now my starter thanx for your help! :)
by the way I didnt encounter any passwords or such.. after clicking the starter icon, the computer icon for connectivity was back in the panel and i did connect online with no problems or passwords at all..
The only difference was that i need to press the starter or launcher everytime i need to connect  at least its much more ok, compared b4 (keeping the terminal left open when online).. and at least, i didnt used my recovery cd..

    Thanx for ur help vickoxy!

madvikins, unfortunately, i am also novice to linux-so if there is no nm-applet, i do not know how that happened. I found the way by copying some files from recovery disk. But i wouldn´t suggested that if you are novice as i.

Hi, I experienced the same intermittent loss of nm-applet as some of you above, and couldn't for the life of me figure out why it would appear sometimes after several reboots, almost at random. In my case, it was because I had the task bar in "auto hide" mode. Taking auto hide off (from the right-click menu: Settings > Panel Manager > uncheck Autohide) allows nm-applet to run on start up. Bit crazy that the application can fail just because the task bar is minimised while it's starting up, but never mind...

Have subsequently noticed that someone else on here also found this (thread: "Network bombshell"). Hope this helps some users with the intermittent problem.

Well KB123, that did help someone!

THAT YOU SO MUCH ! :D

I couldn't figure out why nm-applet didn't load... I thought that the problem occured randomly, but it isn't. In auto-hide mode, if you make the taskbar appear, nm-applet will load. If it's hidden nm-applet will refuse to load. So indeed, it's better to take auto-hide off, nm-applet will start each time.

I've spend a couple of hours seeking for solutions, tryed lot of things. But it seems to be the only the solution that works in my case.

I suppose this is a dumb question but how did you run live update without a network connection?
