I just modded my aao with a 8gb cf, put ubuntu on it, it worked fine. So I formatted and put windows xp pro on it, and I have no sound. Under control panel it says no device. I installed the drivers twice and still nothing. I have something in device manager with a yellow mark on it about pci device, so I tried to manually search for the driver through that, but nothing. I get those beeps from the pc speaker, but nothing else. I tried driver 5.10.0.5628 that is listed on this site.

What version XP did you use? Sound should not be a problem. Did you install the chipset driver 1st? before installing the sound drivers.

Yes I installed chipset, then vga, then sound. It's Windows XP Pro with SP3 integrated.

it should be included with SP3 but just in case, look for the MSHDQFE folder if you unzip the audo drivers, and install it. It should then ask you for the High Definition Audio device.

Thanks that didn't work. It will tell you the update you're applying is older then what's already installed. I googled what you suggested and found the fix. This was posted in the ms forums by one of their programmers. This only applies to systems where sp3 was integrated and installed, not updating to sp3.
