Hi, I have just installed XP to make my AAO dual-boot (using the excellent tutorial on this forum) but I can't get my machine to detect my wireless network when in XP, even though it still works fine in Linpus. I have manually installed the atheros driver and that seems to be ok, but it still wont detect the wifi.
Is there something obvious I need to install?

Any chance your router isn't broadcasting it's SSID?
    Check the settings.
Maybe you configured the Linpus with known information rather than looking for the SSID?
It's fairly common to see a router with the SSID broadcast turned off.

No, the router is broadcasting and shows up as "available infrastructure and ad hoc networks" in Atheros Client Utility but in link status the default profile is "not associated"

Try these commands on the command prompt....

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reboot the machine. Hope it works. ;)

Thanks for that Tamrac - something must have worked because I went back in and let windows configure the network settings and I have now got a connection.

Thought I'd got it fixed but it was only temporary.
Every time I reboot I get no connection and when I go to "choose a wireless network" I get "windows cannot configure this wireless connection etc" and "if you want windows to configure this connection start the Wireless Zero configuration"
The only way I have been able to get connected is to type the command prompt stuff above and then reboot and then I can get windows to configure the connection and it is ok until I reboot next time.
Obviously my wireless adaptor and router are in working order otherwise I wouldn't get connected at all. This is a brand new installation of windows (changed to dual boot) so I guess it must be something I haven't got loaded quite right - any suggestions?

Hmm, seems like something is messing up TCP/IP...What model AAO do you have?(ssd or HD) and kindly list down what version of XP(eg. XP Home SP3), the apps you run at boot up(eg. antivirus, firewalls).

Sorry to be so long coming back to you - I haven't logged on for a couple of days.
Anyway, I now seem to have it under control - I enabled something called zero configuration utility (or something like that). I don't know if that is an accepted fix and whether it is masking something that's not quite right but it does seem to working and detecting networks now.
    Thanks again.
