OCZ Vertex Performance

    I had an OCZ Vertex 60gb tested in my desktop pc an got with hdtune around 180mb/s - when i install the ssd in my aspire one hd tune only shows me 100mb/s can anyone tell me why its so slow in the netbook?

    Possibly because the AA1 BIOS does not enable AHCI mode for SATA devices.

    I have the same problem with my OCZ Solid Series 30G. It is said to have a score of 155/90mb/s read/write in ATTO and someone really proved that claim on his ICH9R-Southbridged motherboard. But in my A110, it only scores 120/80 in ATTO and 90mb/s in HD Tune.

    In Windows, it is reported that the ICH7 SB in AA1 is handling the SATA device in IDE-compatible mode, not AHCI mode, and maybe that accounts for the problem, just as ronime said. I wish some day Acer would forward a new version of BIOS which supports AHCI like what MSI did for its WIND U120.

    Most notebooks (and all netbooks) run in SATA I mode, not SATA II mode. That is why it is slower, it isn't because of IDE compatibility mode or lack of AHCI. Portables are run in SATA I mode to save on power.

    You're already getting the full performance out of SATA I interface.

    SATA 1 has a bandwidth of 1.5Gb/s, this should be good for 150MB/s, surely?

    There's always some overhead. 1.0-1.2Gb/s is about as high as it can go.
    Since the intel chipset used (ibelieve it's ICH6) is very old, it's not yet optimized. Ths you'll only get about 100-120MB/s transfer rate out of it.

    That's max, and that's very rarely ever realized, you have to be under perfectly ideal conditions. Bench the speed on your ram, which should give you 5.3GB/sec of bandwidth and see what you get. Efficiency of the controller (ICH-7M, in this case) is not as good as to get you the full bandwidth available.

    Isn't the ram in our AAO "underclocked"?
    DDR2 667 = DDR 2 5300 = 5.3GB/s
    DDR2 533 = DDR 2 4200 = 4.2GB/s
    So the maximum theortical bandwidth is 4.2GB/s

    Right?

    Hard to say, run CPU-Z and see what it is. On the Asus EEE 1000HA, ram is run at 2:5 so (133/2) x 5 = 333mhz, or DDR2-667 speed. I think it is the same on the AAO.
