Apparently Compiz is installed and I downloaded and installed the Fusion-Icon. This option appears in the Xcfe System menu but when I select it nothing happens. No icon appears in the system tray. I am completely new to the One and Linux. Why doesn't this feature work on my machine? Can I start it another way? ;)

    Cheers,

    Ian

Press Alt F2. Type compiz-manager and tick run in terminal. After this the compiz manager will work.

Ah, probably you need to know some of the hotkeys to turn the effects on. Within the compiz manager you can figure out what they are. Here are a few:

Ctrl + Super (that is the eq of the windows key) + left mouse button
Ctrl +Alt and left and right cursor or move the mouse while pressing the left button

    etc etc

Is there a way of turning off Compiz and reverting back to the standard window manager without rebooting?

When I press CTRL-C in the terminal window where Compiz is running, Compiz closes down and all the special effects etc disappear but the basic window manager that was running before doesn't return. As such, I'm left with application windows with no title bar or borders and so they can't be moved, resized etc

    Anyone help :?:

if you right click the fusion-icon in the tray, go down to where it says window manager and in there it should have compiz and xfce4...select xfce4 and the click reload window manager....

SIDE-NOTE : if you want compiz to auto start when you log in go into the start menu and under settings there should be "Autostarted Applcations" click that then click "add" then for the name put "fusion-icon" and for command put the same...once this is done, compiz will start up automatically when you log in and the fusion icon will be in the tray, this should help you with switching window managers with ease

    hope it helped

    Cheers

Thanks for that Devon, I was originally starting compiz by entering compiz-manager in terminal which doesn't need fusion or bring it up (see next sentence). I found out that I didn't have fusion-icon installed and so I went off to yum and installed it, along with a fat helping of required QT libraries - all for one tiny program and an icon

Anyway, it's all working as you described and I have also installed the extra themes as well :)
