Was it ever alive? it just seemed to be one bloke saying "I'll have a go at this" and then nothing happened.

yes it was alive, there were isos available before he stopped posting them to allow himself to correct some bugs he created.
it's a shame really, was looking forward to give the finished version a tryout.

It is a bit of a shame. On the other hand, as he's said, the Ubuntu Hardy works relatively well on it. On the 160 GB HD version, Ibex, F10, CentOS (with a bit of work) and Elive all run quite well.

But it was supposed to be a netbook optimized version of ubuntu for it, that is the difference from running just any old distro on it.

I think the 'death' of OneLinux is sad for this forum community, Gouki, as we know him, worked very hard and was very close to a great custom distro that would have really worked out of the box, unlike all the others that only partially work. I think it would be great if as a forum we decided to get behind whoever takes on the task and really support them patiently and helpfully, rather than criticising and pressurising.

Why not share your enthusiasm with the guys over at http://kuki.me , who had been contributing to OneLinux. And please do remember that just because these guys are linux Gods, they are still human and deserve to be treated with respect.

    Happiness!! ;)

Not to mention we are all quite nice as well. You can stop by to just shoot the breeze, we do not mind. Well time to go compile a new kernel that may actually allow others to compile out of tree kernel modules ;). If I can get this done then the kernel will be in alpha 3 I think. I am pretty sure that alpha 2 is being pushed to us developers right now, whether or not we release it will be determined in the next few days.

Syco, nothing says these are live cd's. Are they, or just install iso's?

it will be a bit. the new developer alpha is on the horizon for us (on the kuki bakers will have access) which is what i will need to clear up a bug with the compiling of the kernel that was in make-kpkg.

Wow, thank you guys SO MUCH for picking up where OneLinux left off. Since I've had problems with my mic under both Hardy and Intrepid, I was banking on OneLinux to provide a fix.

Even so, I have a few questions:

Does KukiLinux give full access to the Ubuntu repos? As in, would I just be able to install programs via apt-get or aptitude, such as Liferea, Thunderbird, etc.? Thanks again!

Edit: Right, I had another question. If I installed Amicable Amarettini, would I be able to upgrade it after a new release comes out, or would I have to do a complete reinstall? Thanks!

jeffyeh, you will have complete access to the ubuntu repos and I would suggest waiting for alpha2. Right now I think that you would need to completely reinstall. Later versions you would not, but stuff is changing so quickly right now that reinstalling would be the best bet.

    Hello there.

Being kuki's creator i felt that i should also help Syco answering these questions.
Yes kuki Linux does give full access to ubuntu's intrepid repos ( alpha 2 that is soon to be released) for now alpha 1 has access to ubuntu hardy repos.
You can install everything through apt-get.

Regarding the upgrade to the new release, for now that is not possible. We will need to consider that in the future releases.

Just to give you all a taste of whats to come.
    Current subversion is alpha 1.7
Syco54645's vanilla based custom kernel has been inserted.
Wifi is working out of a fresh install.
SLiM login manager is working too.
openbox is running correctly and hopefully will include a initial version of Syco54645's theme and n2j3's wallpaper :)
aptitude is installed and full intrepid repos access too.
Ubuntu version is based on Intrepid Ibex release.
You can hear your music using Audacious.
    feh is used for pictures.
Video programs and such are being analized.
I will provide a custom openbox menu that has an install command for various well known programs (VLC, gimp, firefox,).
Installled system is only 940 Megabytes.

More news will come up on the official website.
Also me and the rest of the "bakers" want to thank you all the great support for this young and still very buggy distro.

Let's make it great shall we? :)
