open office 3

    how come all the documents i opened are read only files? i dont remember setting anything to read only? how and where will i change the settings? please help.

    I don't think this is an OpenOffice issue. This is probably an file permission issue.
    Were you trying to edit files created in MS Office?

    When you login to windows, you log in as a root user.
    When you login to Linux, you login as a regular user.
    That is why you have to precede most terminal commands with the sudo (command), then follow up with the password.

    sudo chmod 775 (Absolute path)(file.name)

    [Tools....Options.....]


    I set [enter] = allows quick editing of cell contents !


    Now i can create spreadsheets FAST . No need to look in a 2nd location
    on LCD ! If i enter bad data/formula , i can fix it without moving my
    focus !

    BTW using 2.3 OpenOffice on my 10 AAO Linpus w/ 3309 BIOS .
