opening pictures

    Hi , i got an acer aspire one for christmas running linux but i am having problems opening pictures that i copy from google. I save the image but when i try to open it in openoffice all i get is a load of letters and symbols. please help, thanks

    Openoffice isn't suitable for image viewing. It's intended as an open-source office suite, similar to Microsoft Office (indeed, it is compatibile with Microsoft files).

    Instead, find the images you download in your file manager. Probably the downloads folder. Then double-click them to open in the default photo application, or right-click on it and select gthumb image viewer.

    Thanks but how do i add them into a document?

    Well, start creating your document in, say, Openoffice Writer, then when you want to insert the picture, click the insert menu, then picture, then from file, then locate the file on your hard drive and select open.
