    Hi melhiore,

As I mentioned, I'm not interested those with ext power & ext cable. Even though they hook on usb but chance of break the doggle and my netbook usb port is high. That's why I prefer an embedded module.

There are some offers on the ebay ; http://shop.ebay.com.sg/items/?_nkw=GTM ... &_osacat=0

Hmm..I wonder why no people interested to install this devices..

On the AOA150, Sierra wireless mc8781 card is working with GPS very well. Reports 8 satellites within a few seconds. Surprisingly this is without connecting to the broadband network. I will have to try a sim card from a expired account to see if an account is required for the GPS function.

I have not heard of anyone getting the 3G card working in the D150.

But the local Costco is selling the D150's with a 3G card and a contract, so it must be possible.

    Hi jerryt,

Thank you for your rmessage. I wonder why people less interested in the 3G GPS embedded module.. :( It's useful even though if you decided not to use 3G connection but the GPS benefit though..

Jerryt, does your Sierra wireless is an embedded module on the mini PCI-e slot? I was heard that for some reasons the Bios must has this feature and I wonder if it is true...Can you confirm?

I'm much interested to get my D150 works with 3G GPS module but looking around the forums, much less information on this issue..

Not sure what you are asking? One of my Aspire A150's I added the mPCIe connector and the other is a factory 3G model. As soon as you add the card Windows device manager picks it up and asks for drivers. I never had to change anything in the Bios.

You have two choices, wait until someone figures out how to add the 3G card on the D150 and posts a "How To", or send your D150 to me I will figure it out for you.

    Hi jerryt,

Thanks for your quick reply, appreciated and thank you for your offer to 'tear' my D150 apart.. Just joking... :D

What I mean is your A150's bios if it has accomodated the 3G already.. I do interested the difference of A150D and D150 but I have no knowledge how to analyses them.

Wonder how many mini PCI-e slot you have in the A150. My D150 only has one. May I know how do you add-in an extra connector?

    Thx

** Jerryt, do you need any ext GPS device as GPS or the Sierra wireless mc8781 has its own GPS? I went to Sierra web site to look at their products and all the MC 8 series do not included the GPS in.. :?:

Both the A110, A150 and D150 can or do have two mPCIe connectors. Most A110 and A150 don't have the second mPCIe connector soldered to the motherboard. You can buy a 9.0mm high connector and solder in.

But it appears all D150's come with the second mPCIe connector soldered in. On the D150 the Wifi mPCIe slot is accessable from the outside of the case, and you need to disassemble the case for access to the 3G slot . (opposite from the A110 and A150) People have reported installing 3G cards in the second slot of the D150, but the Windows device manager does not find the card. The Non 3G model of the D150 is also missing the required Sim card reader.

I have made 3G models out of non 3g A150's, so I think the non 3G D150's can be converted also.

Here are my notes on converting the A150, viewtopic.php?f=43&t=13518&p=85007#p85007

    Hey guys,

Sorry to jump in a bit late here. I have been on the road with my D150. I'll tell You it is a tank on the road. It has been invaluble to me (and durable, it has been dropped twice, once on concrete and is fine mostly, small crack on the battery.)

I would be very intrested in this option if it worked. Right now I am using a Jailbroken iPhone as both a teathered or untethered modem for my D150. It works like a champ.

I also use the iphone for GPS with turn by turn. If I could put that in my D150, that would be very usefull. The Battery in the iPhone does not last that long on the road for GPS or as a modem (unteathered). I have to have it plugged in to the lighter adapter the entire time.

I assume this modual is a modem and a GPS connector? How would i get 3G connection on it? would i have to get a new simcard and service through my cell provider or can I pop my sim card from my iPhone when I need this?

The price is right on this upgrade if i can use my existing sim card.

It is not as simple as installing the 3G card. People who have tried report that the card does not shown up in Windows on the D150. The GPS is built in the 3G card and uses the 3G antennas. Not sure if your iPhone sim card will work or not, my guess would be that it needs a different type of sim card.

So you can either 1) go out and buy a Acer modified D150 with 3g at Cosco or 2) find someone who thinks they could make it work and have them modify it. At the very least the motherboard needs to have a Sim Reader installed.

My offer still stands that I will modify a D150 to 3G campatablity for free for the first person who takes me up on the offer. I will provide the labor and Sim Reader but not the 3G card. But I can test that 3G slot is functioning 100% before returning with a Sierra Wireless MC8781 3G card.

    Jerry,

Thanks for the responce. I see what you are saying about the sim card slot. I think my main concern right now is the additional wireless cost. Why pay for two 3G contracts when I already have one with unlimited data transfer?

I would be intrested if i knew for a fact my iPhone sim worked (it is a standard simcard, it is just linked to a differant billing rate because apple is a ripoff). for that i guess i need to talk to an AT&T rep.

right now as it is, i dont have to take my phone out of my pocket. i just connect to the phone via wi-fi (or use a teather) and i have the 3G and the phone itself has turn by turn GPS.

I just like the idea of a new toy for my newish toy (the Acer). I mod everything I own and the D150 is minimal modded at this point.

PS. when the iPhone OS 3 comes out mid June. It should allow you to use any iPhone as a cellular modem (2G or 3G). I'm not sure if it teathered or wi-fi yet. i'll assume it is teathered.
