Has anyone done it yet? Any differences with the install and/or performance?

I've done a few installs trying to get things right. So far Kalaway gets me the furthest. Does seem a little faster but that could be the difference of the sata drive versus the PATA drive I put into my 8.9" SSD

    Main problems for me:
    - Have to use USB KB and Mouse after 10.5.3 update
    - No sound recognized
    - No Lan recognized (OK - I have broadcom wifi already)

Going to try the XxX 10.5.6 and the iDeneb v1.4 Discs again...

Thanks for your reply. Have you tried iATKOS?

    Hi

I've tried OS X on the new D150 using the iPC 10.5.6 Distro. Works great on my other two A150s (8.9").

    But here:

    - LAN Problem - Acer changed the built in LAN to an Atheros model, there seems to be no OS X drivers available yet.

    - WLan is O.K., if you use a Broadcom card, otherwise the same flaky issues exist as on the A150 (Same Atheros WLan card).

    - Sound problems, too

The same problems exist if installing Linux. OpenSUSE doesn't recognize the LAN device, and needs MadWiFi or NDISwrapper to use the WLan.
The D150 does seem to be about 10-15% more energy efficient than the A150 but this is only verified for Windows. Using the 6-Cell gets me about 8-9 hours of fairly heavy use (WLan, external USB HD to install, etc...).
Even to set up Windows XP, the BIOS SATA Options need to be set to "Compatible"...

Seems to be a LOT of changes to the A150. Pity! As is, at the moment I can only use this box with windows XP.

Acer should just make a new mold for the A150 casing with flaps for RAM, WLan, Disk, etc... Bluetooth, 3G and Touchscreen as factory options.

    Just my 2 cents...

Has anyone had any luck using iDeneb 1.4 10.5.6 or iATKOS_v5i? With iDeneb 1.4, the install went OK, but on reboot after the OS install, the boot froze on loading the NTFS files for the Windows partition. With iATKOS_v5i, it just stays on the initial boot from CD Apple screen with the rotating image.

I'd really like to get one of these working and hear of some success stories with the new 10.1" AAO.

    Thanks,

iAtkos Didn't work for me... got it installed, and it seems to start but then hangs on first boot every time. Tried again with no luck. Was going to try iPC as well, but doesn't sound like that's any better of an option.

I was able to get iATKOS_v5i to install - but I had to use a USB key to make it work - the burned DVD would give read/write failures (despite trying to burn it on different systems).

But, now I cannot get the audio to work. I have the DELL 1390 and that works great for WiFi, but without working audio, the install is almost useless - I really like using Front Row, iTunes, etc. I have installed the ALC258 kexts, but that doesn't make a difference.

Does anyone have a fix that is specific to the 10.1" AAO (Acer Aspire One) that will resolve the audio problems? It appears that the audio is Realtek High Definition Audio - I can't figure out how to get the specific chipset information.

    Thanks.

    Acer Aspire One D150 (Black): Atom N280 1.66 FSB667, 2GB DDR2 667, Toshiba 160GB SATA, 6-Cells 5200mAh
    Partition Configuration :
    1st Partition: Vista / 2nd Partition: OSX / 3rd Partition: Ubuntu linux / 4th Partition(extended): Linux Swap / 5th Partition (extended): Data
    Using Grub as bootloader.
Install Distro : XxX 10.5.6 Universal Final V2
This is what i've choose during install :
Default Selection : Essential System Software, X11, Default.
    Custom :
-Optional Kernel : AnV 9.6.0 (try vanilla kernel not work, keep auto reboot after installed)
    -Graphic Driver : Darwin GMA950 0x27ae
-Network Driver : Atheros 5700, RT2500-RT73-USB, RTL8187L (Both of this usb wifi adapter work)
(The Atheros 5700 are not working, even try the Kismac trunk r319 trick, sometime failed to work, but if i'm not install this atheros driver, i get kernel panic each time after installation finish and reboot during enter personal info, it will hang there)
    -Powermanagement : ACPIBatteryManager
-Others : Trackpad PrePane Fix (not sure neccessary or not), Local Time Toggle (Dual Boot Time Fixed) (doesn't seem to fixed, clock still not showing correctly)
-SD Card Slot work without driver (only try SD card, others type of card not sure)
    -Camera work OTB
-Bluetooth work OTB (have to manually press the button everytime after boot in)

    Things that Not work :
Sound : Realtek ALC272 (try AppleHDAPatcher using linux codecdump text, not working, try AzaliaAudio.pkg interface and volume icon show up, but no sound come up)
LAN : Atheros L1 (Try Attansic L1 driver not working)
Wlan : bought the dell 1390 in ebay, wait it to arrive and begin a little surgery

My little experience after a week of use :
Kernal Panic during startup sometimes (not quite often), after hard reset 2nd boot is ok.
Long startup time sometimes (5-10 mins)
Once the system startup normally, use it for a few hour, do some heavy net browsing (10 tab with various webpage in firefox), downloading, a little gaming (unreal tournament 2004 at 800x600) and it seems to be quite stable.
Hope someone will come out a fix for the Realtek ALC272 sound

I have also been successful, but I have two things still not working - Audio (RealTek ACL272) and the Atheros ethernet. Would be great to get both of these working. I did purchase a DELL 1390 card and it works perfectly.

As vamp13 noted in his post on page one of this sub-forum, XxX does work on the D150 (XxX_x86_10_5_6_Install_Disc_Universal_Final). I've installed it and gotten it running with some minor issues. The last few days, on and off, I've been going at variations of installations. What I've found thus far is that there is no trackpad prefpane (my biggest problem after succeeding with the installation, and maybe why the trackpad is a little bit flaky). I've also had to do some trickery to get the installation to succeed past the registration/intro due to some kernel panic. I have to first install from XxX, as described by vamp13, but expending and selecting the following Network drivers:

    RealtekR1000.Driver
    RTL8187L
    AtherosAR5004G wireless Driver.
    RT2500-RT73-USB
    AtherosWireless

Then I reboot the new system (and it panics upon startup or during the registration process). Restart and boot with iAktos 5i, NO REFORMATTING OF DRIVE, then install only:

    PC EFI V9 bootloader
    Realtek R1000 network driver.

Sometimes this will get the new system to get past the welcome and registration screens, but not usually.

Then I go back to XxX and start to re-install - NO REFORMATTING OF DRIVE. This time, with XxX, I am re-installing the PC EFI V9 bootloader and the same network drivers as I did the first time.

Now, the system usually starts up fine and I can get past the welcome and registration screens. This is where I am currently at. The problems, as I see them, are that there are two important items that have been left out of XxX Final... A trackpad driver and the correct Atheros driver. The trackpad driver, obviously negates the use of the trackpad for anything except the movement of the pointer (no tapping, clicking, etc). The Atheros driver seems to be related to getting the system started once it's been installed.

I'm trying to get to a point where I can extract and independently install some kexts from iAtkos 5i or from a the previous version of XxX. I'll report on my success (or lack thereof), but doubt that I'll be able to do much until next week.

All of this said, I have had a flawless installation of iAtkos 5i on my a150. Everything is very Mac-like and pleasant.

    MN

Nice work so far. I just bought the Acer Aspire One D150-1165 model from a local store. Fry's Electronics. They just came out with them. It came with Windows XP Home installed. I did a Ghost Image before I did anything to the system. I removed/added what I needed from the system. The bad thing that I did notice was the login screen when choosing a username, takes a really long time before it tell the login process starts. after that it works fine. no other issues. I did try to install osx 10.5.6 ideneb 1.4. it does go through the install, but after rebooting from the install, all i get is a apple symbol. Then it freezes. I never get to see the os desktop screen. I will try some of the options from this thread. hopefully this works. guess this model is still new as not a lot of info on this model has been tested or modded yet.

Update on progress - or - "even failures should be reported..." I've tried numerous kexts from iATKOS 5i and the previous XxX Leo install disk (not "Final") and have gotten no-where. Replacing kexts related to trackpad control from other sources that installed nicely on the a150 does not appear to work. I am back to the install that I described earlier. I'm not sure what my next step will be, but I'll figure something out. I did try installing Side Track, but that does not function without the trackpad working.

As for my other AAO, it took the iATKOS 5i install described by Diablo without a hitch. Sure, it's quite an install process, but it's been fine since December. I even have VGA-out and it works like a champ. Of course, tomorrow it will all crash. One thing I did differently with the other AAO is put in a Broadcom network card before starting the Mac OS installation process. I have not gotten a new wireless card for the d150, but I plan to do so (I don't want to go the KisMAC route).

I can't get sound working. I used the xXx final and am using it now to type this post. No sound, KP on shutdown, trackpad works but no prefs are available. This was my introduction to the Mac OS and hacking it into a pc. It was alot of fun and I hope the problems are figured out soon. I'm dual booting Win 7 and OSX.

yay :D gooooood news!~ i got the iDeneb 1v4 10.5.6 (voodoo 9.5.0 kernel) working. i also replaced the internal wireless mini-pci-e with a dw 1490 (dw 1390 other version) (broadcom 43xx). it works out of the box if you select the Broadcom option during the install. VPN also work, so far, no problem. i'll list the check boxes i used later. I found out that if you pick the wrong ones, you'll get lots of kernel panics or the system just hangs on boot and you wont make it pass the welcome screen.

In the earlier experiments, i got Quartz Extreme to work with native screen of 1024x600. Sound is still broken. No LAN yet. You can power off the WAN from the switch, but it doesn't turn on after its off lol. Battery is reading correctly it seems. The webcam is recognized in the devices but i can't get it to work yet in ichat *see below.

still gonna work it since iDeneb also released an update to 1v4.

edit: the openGL and QE from Diablo's pack seems to work fine. webcam in ichat works are the video package has been installed. photobooth also works. i also installed a couple of the packages included like the don't sleep. i skipped the powerbundle fix since i saw the batteryfix in the menu. I opted to skip the sound right now since the d150 has a new sound driver AL272 (yeah, no problems with shutting down since no sound lol). Based from forums (insanelymac), i havent found anything yet that makes this work.

Guide to Installing OSX86 on Aspire One D150 Model: KAV10 (N270)

    Processor
    Processor Intel Atom N270 / 1.6 GHz
    Data Bus Speed 533 MHz
Chipset Type Mobile Intel 945GSE Express

    Video
Graphics Processor / Vendor Intel GMA 950 Dynamic Video Memory Technology 3.0

    RAM
    Installed Size 1 GB
    Technology DDR2 SDRAM - 533 MHz
    Form Factor SO DIMM 200-pin

    Storage
    Hard Drive 160 GB

    External USB DVD Drive

    WAN
Dell DW 1490 Mini-PciE card *replaced the card that came with the pc*

Software: Debian Lenny, Knoppix Live CD 6.0.1, Windows XP SP2, iDeneb 10.5.6

    **Started from scratch**
**I have 3 OS's installed. If you want to have just OSX installed, just skip over to that section, step 5. These are the settings that worked for me.*

0)First part is to intall XP. Press F2. Enter Bios. Change ACHI to IDE (So when you install xp, it can find the drive)

1)Booted with iDeneb. boot option used: -v (verbose)

2)Click on Disk Utility. Click on the Drive. Partition it anyway you want. My partion was:
    1st partition: 85gb - OSX Journaled
2nd partition: 32gb - Windows FAT32 (Linux and OSX can read and write here without being root)
    3rd partition: 32gb - Free Space

Afterwards, Click on Terminal. now we want to check the partitions we just created.
    Code:
    # diskutil list
    # fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0
    > p

diskutil should list the drives you have. rdisk0 should be the harddrive. once you hit fdisk, you'll go do a sub prompt. P will list the partitions. you should see a '*' on the first one on the same line as 'HFS+'. This is what you want.

    3)Exit the OSX istaller.

4)Insert Windows Disk. At the partition Screen, you should see "C:" in the middle, or the partition you created in Disk Utility. Select it. Format it. I just did a quick format. Then XP will start to install itself.

    5)After XP, I installed OSX.

Reboot the machine and boot the iDeneb dvd. I went back to Disk Utility to make sure that my partitions are still in tact.

    Install OSX. My Custom settings:

    Customize Settings:
    -IDeneb Essential System
    -Patches 10.5.6 Ready
    -Alternative Essential Patch
    -PS2Fix for ACPI kext 10.5.6
    -PS2Fix Keyboard
    -Chipset
    -ICHx Fixed
    -Kernel
    -Kernel 9.5.0 Voodoo
    -Fix
    -BatteryManager Fix
    -SeatBelt Fix
    -Poweroff fix
    -Video
    -Intel
    -Intel GMA950
    -Network
    -Wireless
    -Broadcom
*I didn't install a sound driver because the D150 has ALC272. According to insanelymac forums, I didn't see alot of topics on this particular sound card. So, my AAO has no sound. It has no LAN either because of the different network card.*

After the installation, make sure you can boot up Windows or OSX. With this method, you should see Darwin Bootloader, and it should detect the 2 partitions.

    (hd0,0) - OSX Drive Name
    (hd0,1) - No Name

if you get a MBR boot error, chances are it didn't install correctly, and try again. Heres a useful link for dual booting XP and OSX > http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Simple_Dual_Boot

if you boot up after the installation and don't see Darwin but Windows Automatically boots up, don't be alarmed. This happened to me a couple of times. This most likely had something to do with the MBR. If you are going to install linux, we can fix this with GRUB. However, if you just want XP and OSX, there are 3 ways to go about it.

1st is reinstall OSX until you get it working.
2nd is to try to use the chain0 method http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Chain0.
3rd is to try to fix the active partition boot flag. I did the 3rd option. I fixed it in Windows Command Prompt http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Darwin_Bootloader

6)I installed Linux next. (http://aboutdebian.com/install5.htm - good readme for Debian installation) Setup a 2 partitions: '/' and 'swap'. Finish the installation. I installed GRUB, and will be using it as the Bootup Manager.

6)Restart the pc. You should be able to select linux or windows but no OSX. Congratulations for getting this far.

Login into Linux and now we'll edit the menu boot list of grub using Terminal.

    Code:
    # pico /boot/grub/menu.lst

Scroll to the bottom where you see the entry for Windows. The Entry for OSX will be similar.
The only value different from the windows entry is: (hd0,0). Copy the rest. Press Ctrl+x on the keyboard and select yes to save the buffer.

12)Reboot the machine. Now you'll see grub. If you select the new entry you created, you'll see Darwin Bootloader and you get to select between OSX or XP.

13)Getting the stuff in 10.5.6 to work:
The rest of this section is based off another thread, credits to them for the hard work :D http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=10197

-Download: Download AAO_SbM_OSX_1056_Pack.zip and Unzip the contents. You should see a folder named Diablo's Kext. http://perso.numericable.fr/sbmordino/AAO_SbM_OSX_1056_Pack.zip

-Launch "Kext Helper b7". Using the program, install "Natit.kext", "AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext", and "AppleIntelGMA950.kext" under part 1 of Diablo's Kext. These 3 extensions are for the Graphics.

-I installed next the Aboutthismac package and the DoNotSleep.mpkg.

-Afterwards, Launch "OSX86Tools.app" and click "Enable/Disable Quartz GL". Click "Enable Quartz GL" in the small translucent black window that pops up. Click "Restart".

    /* EDIT - 4/12/2009*
-Working LAN! Thanks to Brambo for the post. http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=13271
-Launch "Kext Helper b7". Using this, install the "AttansicL1eEthernet.kext". After installation, reboot. You should be able to see your LAN working.
    */

    /* EDIT - 4/13/2009*
-Working Sound from the internal speakers and autoswitching if headphones are plugged in. I haven't messed around with the mic, but i''m happy i can use itunes lol! Thanks to Brambo for the post and the voodoo team for the kext! http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=161638

-What you'll need. If you want to compile for yourself, you'll need Xcode (about 1gb download and install it before compiling) from Apple and the source code from the voodoo team. http://code.google.com/p/voodoohda/source/checkout.

-*4/15/2009* Voodoo Team released a zip for the kext. http://code.google.com/p/voodoohda/downloads/list. So you can just download it and load it to your machine.

    -Open the terminal.
    Code:
    # svn checkout [url]http://voodoohda.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/[/url] voodoohda-read-only
    # cd voodoohda-read-only
    # sudo ./helper.sh build

This will download the source code on its own folder and it should be located in your home directory. The helper is a script to build the kext. After this go to you /System/Library/Extensions folder. Copy your AppleHDA.kext, any AzaliaAudio.kext, and HDAenabler.kext. This will be your back up so put it in a safe place. Delete those files. Reboot. Open the Terminal again.

    Code:
    # sudo ./helper.sh load

This will now load the kext. Open your Disk Utility and repair the permissions on the drive just in case. You should have sounds by now. Reboot. If you open your Sound on the Pref Pane, and don't see or hear anything, don't worry. Open the Kext Helper b7 app. Now, on finder, open the voodoohda-read-only folder. There should be a tmp folder that was created when you loaded VoodooHDA.kext for the first time. Select the the kext and install it. Reboot the machine, and you should have the sound working now without having to reload the kext.

If you don't want to compile the kext on your own, i've attached a copy of what i compiled here :)
