Apple should definetely sell a multipurpose OS X for PC hardware!? (+drivers)
Once they have 10% market share maybe?

(+hackintoshes give them more weight overall online! Accounted as Macs/safarei(or firefox) in web traffic.)

Yesterday I made one attempt to install Tiger, without success.. However I did notice the footprint of Tiger is so much smaller; 2,5GB!

My proposed setup; Aspire One (1GB RAM) with 8GB class 6 SD card (about the same performance as the SSD). Create RAID 0 from SSD and SD and install Tiger. I expect the RAID to give better read/write improvement and with it a faster system (boot time!).

(Ideal setup: change the internal SSD with a 4GB 300x CF card. :D )

Turning Journaling off might give a speed increase.

    http://www.castyour.net/node/40

    [EDIT]
    From the link:
"UPDATE: A quicker solution is to hold down option when you click the menu in Disk Utility - this enables the disable journaling option. Thanks to the reader that informed me. Fortunately haven't had to struggle with either command line errors or gui obfuscation to disable journaling again as haven't booted MacOS in a while."

    Hehe great idea! RAID0 => speed*2 - I'll give it a try!! Thx! :cool:
(+just finished downloading the Kalyway 10.4.10 - will play around with it next week)

Yes, I wondered why a 'Journaled' Mac OS partition was mandatory for Leopard?
Non-journaled faster as for Fat32 vs NTFS or ext2 vs ext3.
Yes it worked fine, "home"-key (Option) + "File" menu from Disk Utility showed the "Disable Journaling" command to click.

Some pictures for your eyes only!...

Edit: click once on the pictures to display in full size. (no scrolling/easier - ah but the right part is truncated-doh!) :ugeek:
Also don't hesitate to ask for more specific applications/printscreens if you wish.

Was planning on a dual boot of XP and a proper linux distro (ubuntu, YDL, etc).

But if i can have the option of Linux, XP and OSX. That would be SWEEEEEET!

I'm getting happy, happy, joy, joy feelings! Haha, so jeromlenz...what's the stats and what led you up to this point? Have you worked out all the kinks yet? Is the wireless working?? I need to know as I'm about to crack open for RAM and my 60Gb 1.8 zif (+trimming..haha). So I'd like to just load up OSX right off the start.

Im downloading the 10.5.4 build made for the MSI wind now. I have gotten my hard drive, but the stock ZIF cable does not work with the Hitachi drives, so I had to order a new ZIF cable. Not sure when that will be in. :?

Ok, 10.5.4 built for the Wind would help indeed.
I'll try 10.4.10 for myself - well it's far from perfect yet, no wifi and no sound as of today (+waiting for the 8gb SDHC to try the RAID-0 thing!)
Elpresidente, I guess you need the Dell wifi card to have it working right away? (see the Wind posts)

Unlikely that a different card will solve the problem.. The problem with the wind is that it has an unsupported wifi card, while the One's card is supported but doesn't get recognized. (support as in: drivers are available..)

But I haven't tried and maybe these assumptions are incorrect.

It does ;-) You need to do it right but it does get into the hd connector. You need to release the lock and then plug the flat cable from one extreme to the other with a rotating movement. You won't get it if you do it the usual way.

    Cheers

I have tried and tried that. Everyone I see using the factory ZIF cable is using a toshiba drive, and since the pin outs are reversed on the hitachi and toshiba, I am pretty sure I am gonna have to wait til the new ZIF cable comes in.

    I am using a Hitachi C3K80 (http://www.hitachigst.com/tech/techlib. ... star_C3K80) with the stock zif cable.

Ok, I was correct. The problem is on the C4K60, Pin 1 of the header is on the wrong side. So I need to common Hitachi cable that flips the pin order. Luckily that is what I have on order. :)
