I am uploading and downloading files to a CNC milling machine through a Serial Connection. The Mill connector ends in a 9-Pin Serial connector. I purchased a Radio Shack 9-Pin to USB cable that gets configured in the COM PORT section of the Device Manager in Windows XP. BY the way I am running the new Aspire with 160Gig Harddrive using XP.

When transfering files, I get a Parity Error every time. I put the cable on my older laptop and configured it the same as the Acer Configuration and the data was transfered fine. All the settings in the Device Manager, the actual software doing the transfer (a CAD program), and the milling machine are set the same on both computers. Would this be a device drive problem on the Acer? I am running the Driver Robot program right now and it is modifying outdated drivers.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Have you setup the com ports parity setting in device manager, i have the radio shack one it shows as Prolific USB-to-serial com port and also you may have to set to com 1 or 2 as per your cnc software settings also adjusting the Tx/Rx buffer to a lower number to correct errors. Control panel/system/hardware/device manager/ports/prolific/port settings/advance hope this helps SNO
