    Hi,

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm trying to do the following...

I've used Sysrescuecd to make a bootable Linux on a USB key. I plug this into the left USB port and boot from it OK. Partimage sees this as sdb1.

I then want to run Partimage to backup my 120GB hard disk sda1 onto ANOTHER USB key which I then plug into the right USB port. Partimage sees this as sdc1 (but I can't see it via df etc)

    So far, so good. However...

In Partimage itself I have no idea what to type into the Image file to create/use box. What path do I give here? Do I have to mount the second USB key or...? Any tips much appreciated.

I'm working my way toward rbil's scripts but I want this to work first...

    Thanks,
    Rowantree

You'll have to mount the second key if you want to copy files to it. That's what partimage does. It copies the partition you're imaging to another drive/directory as a series of image files.

    Cheers.

Today I received the 8GB Backup/Restore Flash Key that rbil is selling.
Plugged it into my Aspire One with Linpus installed and turned the system on. Booted
from the key and simply hit enter at the prompts. Then I had a choice to
either Backup or Restore my Aspire One. I hit 1 and away it went. Some
20 minutes later my computer was completely backed up. Then to test it,
I booted the key again and chose 2 to Restore. Again, some 20 minutes
later and my computer was completely restored.

I can't believe this backup software! I've used True Image in the past
and did backups with that, but this flash key from rbil
is way easier to use! Didn't have to make any decisions at all, which
in the past would have landed me in trouble if I made the wrong choice.
. Now that I have a backup I can depend on, I'm not afraid to try all kinds of things with this computer, knowing
that I can always get back to a good system should something screw up.
I've already done an install of Ubuntu and am busy tweaking!
Thanks rbil! Great and necessary software. If anyone wants a easy, easy backup system goto
rbil's blog and order his 8GB Kingston
flash key backup system. His blog is at,
    http://customdesignlinuxblog.blogspot.com/

(The cost of this flash key with this great software isn't much above the
cost of a flash key without anything on it!) Way to go Rbil! :D

I used Partimage successfully saving my backup image file to sda1. Don't be confused-the usb key that's used to boot into live usb mode is no longer sdb1... but known as sda1 when using partimage! When you save your image to sda1...and reboot into linpus....you'll find you image in the first usb key that you stuck in.....Good luck!
