Password

    Hi,
    i have follow link on this site with regards downloading software such as VLC. Each time i open a template and type commands such a "su" it asks me for a password. i have not set up any passwords on this machine.i am concerned as i bought my pc as a managers special as someone else returned it because they did not like linux and may have set up a password when first turning the pc on. can you please help.
