I`ve been testing it for a couple of months, and the result is that windows 7 is fastter than Xp and more stable. Also the Interface is more netbook friendly than xp, with the fantastic superbar with the window preview.

windows-7 is booting up faster than any previous os i have inc. WinXp and tiny Vista v2.

the taskbar looks nice and i prefer it over previous taskbars, but its not that important.

apart from that, i don't think it has any extra features that i notice or need.

It's much faster on the SSD version as it's optimised for it, less writes, and unless I am imagining it, it caches non critical writes in RAM until write activity is idle so you get less hangs.

This is comparing standard XP install to a standard W7 install by the way, if you have EWF on XP, then that will still be faster for normal use.

I must be doing something wrong... I installed Windows 7 last night and this thing is unusably slow. It took 2 minutes for IE to open! I'm on the SSD version coming from an install of Linux Mint (which was quite snappy). Do I need to tweak it? Does it know I am using an SSD, or do I have to tell it? Sorry if I am missing something obvious - I haven't been a Windows user for a full decade now.

You shouldn't have to do anything other than disable the page file, that will simply cache everything you load back onto the SSD which will be very slow.

To free up another 1gb or so, you can disable he hibernation file too, but that won't affect the speed.

if win7 beta i as fast as xp on my 1 gb. ram, will graphics intensive games that only run on xp, as opposed to vista, run well on win7?

Could a Windows 7 user please post a screenshot of the Task Manager, performance tab ?
Also include your Build #, How much RAM and do you have any tweaks done ?
I would be very thankful! :D

I didnt find Win7 as quick as XP but my XP is tweaked a little with a few services disabled (nothing drastic and still as full install - not nlited) It just took a little longer for explorer windows to open up etc, took a little longer to boot and coming back from hibernation took longer too.

Win7 uses about 450-500MB ram, whereas WinXP uses about 200-250MB.

Mines the HDD version too. I know the Acer's SSD aint the quickest so Win7 may perform a little better on the 110's.

Well, i'm with DynaMight. I forgot how normal xp was since i was using a tweaked xp, but yes, i don't think its faster than xp. Faster than Vista, without a doubt. The picture below is an untouched Win7 Build 7000. I'm not so good at tweaking stuff, so i'll just have to wait until someone does it so i can copy lol. It's still nice for me though.

    Software installed:
    Office 2007
    Kapersky Anti-Virus
    CCCP
    CoreAVC
    PSX Emu
    NDS Emu
    GBA Emu
    SNES Emu

    Thanks a lot. :D
Is the "Send Feedback" link going to be gone when the final release comes out ?
I'm now moving from Windows Vista to Linpus Linux Lite, and I might leave some space for the future (Windows 7 Final) :)
Would 8 GB be enough ? I'm assuming that this is optimized for netbooks that are 512 MB RAM, 8 GB SSD...

Yea i went back to Tiny Xp, like many who posted here, the wireless issue was annoying. It is a great OS, hopefully someone will make like a tiny win7 or something or i'll wait for the final OS.

    Because someone asked.

    1.5gb ram, 120gb HD, stock Win7 build 7000.

FYI there are patches to remove the watermark on the desktop and the "send feedback" link as well as a reset for the 30 day trial. All of which I can confirm working.

Also it appears the wifi issues is a problem with the atheros card, because I have a Dell 1390 and it has no wifi trouble at all.
