    Hello,
My first day with Linux. Wow. Bill Gates has a stranglehold for a good reason, but I'm trying to free myself. Anyway, I downloaded Picasa but don't know how to get photos from external drive on to it (temporarily). Plus, does anyone know how to click take online video clips of the person to whom you are talking to on the Aspire one-linux skype site ? The Skype works, but I am finding that with Linux everything seems to be a hidden secret.
    Thanks for reading.

    Hi Tom

I've been using Picasa on my Linux Aspire One for 2 months now. I both review myday to day shoots, and have working portfolios on my machine. Picasa is really great, able to access RAW as well as the normal TIFF & JPEG files. It also is able to do rudementary corrections on the RAW files.

Like you, I found it hard if not impossible to transfer files from my flashcard at first. It is somewhat simpler if you use a card reader in one of the USB ports. Check in the file directory on your desktop that the card is seen, then go back to Picasa.

    1. On the top left corner under the "file " menu, click the button "import"
    2. On the open page click "select device" you will see at least 3 choices, and if you are lucky one of them will be your card. USB CD /DVD reader writers pop up immmediately, card readers rarely.
    3. Select the last choice "folder" and you'll get a directory page. which should open to your "home" directory.
    4. Scroll up to "/" and select
5.Select "media" and you should see your card. (I haven't had much success finding the card when it is inserted in on of the 6. SD slots I would serious suggest you to get a USB card reader if you don't already have one)
7.Select & open the folder with your images and they should pop up as icons in Picasa.
    8. To work on one or more images at screen size you have to select and import to a folder you asked to create.

Working with RAW certainly puts demands on the system (I have only 512K RAM) but it is possible and it is easy to edit and import only those you wish to show or work on.

It is possible that Picasa will immediately bring in icons without going through the above steps after step 1. If so - go out and buy a lottery ticket. :)

Importing from CD /DVD or portable hard disc USB hardware works somewhat the same, although it most likely will appear immediately once you have opened Step 1

I am still not super familiar with all the facets of Picasa. A friend tells me that there are easier and more effiecient ways of doing this, but the above is what works for me.

    Hope this helps

    Hi

Picasa was one of the first programs I downloaded before starting to play with a variety of Fedora upgrades. I went onto the Picasa download page and I believe I downloaded the 2.7 version that is still available for RedHat/Fedora. Make sure you download the i386 version. I've just had to restore my Acer and have done some upgrades to include Fedore 8-9 files, so now I have Picasa Beta 3 on my machine and it seems to work quite well.

The following is the link to the download page

Hi hope someone can help, I bought an aspire one to take away with me this summer as I will be working abroad.
Anyway, just connected my camera (finepix z100fd) by USB and nothing happend, I went to look for it but still couldn't see it. Then I put in my SD card and had the same problem. Do i need to download a program? if so what is the most basic/easy to use?

    Thanks

    Picasa

So I successfully downloaded Picasa, but I can't figure out how to open it. I'm not seeing it in my download folder or on the desktop menu. Bear with me, I'm very new at Linux and need all the help I can get!

    Re: Picasa

Hi mnewcomb, when you download load it - it should open with the add software tool.

Are you downloading it straight from the Linux Picasa site? http://dl.google.com/linux/rpm/testing/i386/picasa-3.0-current.i386.rpm

I've put the steps I followed on the blog http://netbook-experience.blogspot.com/

    Cheers
