Hey all, first post so be nice :) I'm getting used to Linpus, installing programs and the like, and I can't get aMSN to work, so I figure I'd try Pidgin.

When I try to install it however it asks for libpurple = 2.2.2-1.fc8, which I can't find on the list. ANy suggestions?

    THanks

    Paul

I'm pretty inexperienced with linux, so don't take my word as gospel, but on the advice of others (I recommend reading up at macles.blogspot.com) I've gotten this resolved on my AA1.
You need to remove the version of libpurple that's installed, and let Pidgin install its own, untweaked version. Doing so, however, I hear breaks/uninstalls the Acer messenger and email programs (neither of which are of concern to me).

    sudo yum remove libpurple
    sudo yum install pidgin

    A different problem:
AIM and YIM work fine, but how do I go about installing/configuring SSL support, to use MSNM and Gtalk through Pidgin?

use "sudo yum update fedora-release" in first! for resolving the dependency

    su -
    password
    yum update fedora-release
yum remove pidgin (if you try to install it before)
    yum install pidgin (or amsn)
