When you enter su - (without #>), you should be asked for your password.
    Doesn't that happen?

Turns out I kept missing spaces (su_-). Looks like it'll all be working out. Thanks, guys!

as for now i would like to ask how to make the subtitles on VLC work? i enabled them from the options and also increasied the size to about 30pixels but theres still nothing.. ive read somewhere that vlc tries to load fonts which are not installed on the linpus.. can some1 confirm that? and how can i install those fonts?
im a newbie with linux and dont even master the basics.. so if some1 has a solution for my prob, pls explain it in an easy way :p
sry for ma bad englisch, hope its understandable enough

    Hi!

Im also having trouble with subtitles. In my other computer i can play them just fine, but in Aspire One, i have this problem:

Not all subtitles appear. Sometimes, two people are talking for a couple of minutes and only one or two subtitles appear... So, it´s not a problem of subtitles NOT appearing AT ALL, but a problem where they appear rarely...

    Anyone knows why this happens?

Do not copy and paste, type one line at the time because after you type su - and hit enter you have to type your password.

    Wrong way:

    #> su -
    #> rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-8.rpm
    #> yum install vlc

    Right way:

    su -
    rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-8.rpm
    yum install vlc

I have successfully installed VLC, and it appears to be working fine, however, every time I start it it tells me there has been an error

    "Unable to open '%U' "

Anyone knows how to fix this?

AA1ROCKS here's how to fix it. I posted it on a different thread, and dandesigns posted a different (and seemingly less complicated) method of fixing this. I'm posting mine since I haven't tried his. If you don't want to try either method, just open VLC from the right click. Here's how I fixed mine.

    1. Go to My Files
    2. Paste /usr/share/applications
    3. Right click the white area on the /usr/share/applications folder (between the files)
    4. Select "open terminal here"
    5. Type "su -". Hit enter.
    6. Type your password. Hit enter.
    7. Type "mousepad"
    8. Now, on mousepad, go to file/open. In "Location", paste /usr/share/applications/livna-vlc.desktop
    9. Look there. There should be a line which says "Exec=vlc %U". Change it so that it says "Exec=vlc".

You are now done. Now you should be able to click the icon in desktop without any problems.

When playing a video with VLC, everything works fine until I close the computer lid and put it to sleep (with the video either still playing or paused). The A1 powers down fine, but when I reactivate it the VLC video comes back but not the audio. Mute/unmute doesn't restore it, but going to the VLC Audio menu, selecting Audio Track, then selecting Disable, followed by a repeat of these choices but selecting Track 1 (which it was set to originally) restores the audio.

Anyone else having this problem? Anyone got a fix?

Thank you so much for your work - I did this on mine, and after a long wait, while all the files downloaded and installed, everything WORKS GREAT! I am so grateful - one of the MAIN reasons I bought the AAO was to watch my movies and shows on the go, and now I can!

Now if I can just get the little guy to work with my mobile phone, via USB cable, to use my GPRS and EDGE service, I would be in fat city! I can do it easily on my daughter's Eee, and on my Mac, but the connections manager on the AAO is SEVERELY handicapped. Any helpful hints?

    Thanks everyone!

    ~R.

I'm having the same problem on a clean install. Worked before.. Anyone know what I'm missing?

    Update:
I googled and downloaded the missing RPM's and installed them manually. Which seemed to fix the problem.

    Hi folks,

I can't get things to install - I keep getting error messages that the fedora repository has a problem, or some such - it's been going on for days, and I am getting the same message with add/remove modules - is the repository down?

    thanks...
