To solve this problem, you just need to add the fedora "updates" repository:
. open pirut (add/remove program entry)
    . go in Edit/Repositories (Ctrl+R)
. check the "updates" repository (note: you should have "fedora" and "livna" already checked)
. close the window and pirut
. open a terminal as root and follow the previous procedure again - i.e. "yum install vlc", etc...
This should fix your issue (at least it worked for me!)

    Hi guys.
As you can see I'm new here.
I just bot my Aspire One 20 min ago. :D
The first thing I looked for was the Divx problem and that's how I got here.
I´ve tryed this method but after a while It says it can't get the file.
I also tryed to enter http://rpm.livna.org and can't...
Is it down? Is there another way to get and install this?
I'm complet newbie in linux so something like this was perfect for someone like me. ;)

Hope you guys can help me.

    Thanks in advanced,
    Alex

    Hello Alex_76,
Both myself and a guy on another thread have failed to connect to livna today, so I guess it is down.

I was having problems with the same missing dependencies as many of you:

Error: Missing Dependency: libpulse.so.0(PULSE_0) is needed by package vlc
Error: Missing Dependency: libopendaap.so.0 is needed by package vlc-core
Error: Missing Dependency: libdvdnav.so.4 is needed by package vlc-core

I searched around and came up with the following fix (it worked for me and others). Read/follow the instructions at the link below and that might help get those missing dependencies. I used the info under the heading " Fedora 8".

You probably need to update yum to use the new package encryption key. Look at my last post in the big READ ME thread at the top of this forum.

    @ sinc & totokoko:

Check my post toward the bottom of page 5, that might help you get the files that you 2 are missing.

Hey I have a missing dependencies problem too - I've done sudo yum update fedora-release, and followed the instructions here: https://fedoraproject.org/w/index.php?t ... s_wrong.3F

but I still have missing dependencies:

libdvdread.so.3 is needed by package vlc-core
libgnutls.so.13 is needed by package vlc-core
libgnutls.so.13(GNUTLS_1_3) is needed by package vlc-core

    Any ideas?

    Missing dependencies:
What worked for me was to google the file names, in my case 'libpulse.so.0(PULSE_0)' etc to find a download site for the missing files. You have to pick the right versions- ones that say fedora 8 and i386 not 64 bit, and download and install them by double clicking on them in your downloads folder. Once that's done it (in my case) installed normally.
Hope this helps- and thanks to those who helped me.

HI. I made what you say to install vlc in my ACER ASPIRE, and it "looks" (i don't manage myself at all with linux) that everything goes allright untill the last sentence "yum install vlc": then it downloads something (it says something about "fedora" and other thing) but suddenly it says something like "no vlc package available" "nothing to do", and finish: no instalation and nothing else. I've tried several times and always the same answer. ¿What am i doing bad? ¿What is goind wrong? Can anyone help me? may be i would need further explanations, even about the most stupid questions, such as ¿should i write this ># before each sentence or is it just to indicate the different sentences?¿what should i observe in my laptop after tapping the second sentence?, an so on...).THANKS SO MUCH

First post in this forum so bear with me...

I have been trying to install VLC on my brand new Linux (Linpus) Acer One. I also received the following three dependency messages :-

As suggested in this thread I went in search of these three rpms and installed all three then re-installed vlc.

Two of the three missing dependencies no longer appeared .. great... but I was still left with

Error: Missing Dependency: libpulse.so.0(PULSE_0) is needed by package vlc
    .. not so great

If I try and install libpulse again it says that it is already there

This is the version I have downloaded and installe pulseaudio-libs-0.9.7-0.17.svn20071017.fc8.i386.rpm and it is there in the Installed packages list as are the other two but under their libopendaap and libdvdnav names.

    Any help please

    Thanks in advance

    EDIT :

This post has sorted me out :-

    viewtopic.php?f=39&t=1978&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=10#p23414

Took a while to update but VLC all present and working now

    :D

I had the same 3 errors... after being checking many many thing as install manually or do this and that THE ONLY THING IT WORKS on my computer, ASPIREONE 120GB bought in U.K 16th of SEPTEMBER. was what rufus the dog links... above in his EDIT.

    thanksssss

EDIT: and by the way, to put the ICON, go to mydocuments and type on the top: /home/user/.config/xfce4/desktop/group-app.xml once there go to the group that you want to insert the ICON in mine is GROUP ID 7 and paste this after the last <app sequence="......etc etc: <app sequence="6 ">/usr/share/applications/livna-vlc.desktop</app>

++++++ I PUT NUMBER "6", You just put the next number in your sequence, in my case the last was 5, so I put 6.

    BYE BYE.
