It would really pay to read the thread if you have a problem with something concerned in the thread, eh?
Here's one of the several times it's been answered:

    Hello, Jack.

Thank you for the linnks. I followed the guide from macles but when it's installing i get this errors:

Error: Missing Dependency: libpulse.so.0(PULSE_0) is needed by package vlc
Error: Missing Dependency: libdc1394.so.22 is needed by package ffmpeg-libs
Error: Missing Dependency: libdvdnav.so.4 is needed by package vlc-core

In the same blog, i found the solution:

    sudo yum install fedora-relase

but when i type this, I get

    No package fedora-relase available
    nothing to do

So, im stuck again installing vlc... what should i do?

    thanl you.

I get the same problem, I ended up using Totem Movie player which still has the same problem but instead of skipping a couple of seconds the screen goes blocky and then catches up which I find more preferable.

I don't think it's the processor because mine runs at 800Mhz when playing a movie.

Refering to the original post, i.e.:
My acer wants me to type in a password after su-

To my knowledge I have none? I bought my Acer Aspire One in a shop where Linux Lite was already installed. What shall I do?

    Thanks for help,

    Hi Martin,

When you first took the Acer out of the box and turned it on did you do the following.
    1. Choose an language.
    2. Set a password.
    3. Set the time and date.

Because when you type su at the prompt then you have to enter the password you set the Acer up with.

IE permission to work at root.

Hi I am trying to install VLC but I have a problem, I wrote install vlc and everyting look fine, and then I have this problem:

    Downloading Packages:
    Running rpm_check_debug
    ERROR with rpm_check_debug vs depsolve:
Package ffmpeg-libs needs libx264.so.56, this is not available.
    Complete!

How can I fix? I tried but I am not really sure how to do it.

    Thank you

I have been experiencing periodic "stutters" while playing back movies in VLC. They seem to be at regular intervals, although I can't confirm that. I saw a comment somewhere else that mentioned gnome-screensaver, so I set the screensaver to 2 hours and unchecked the box to activate. That did not solve the problem however. I then stopped the gnome-screensaver process completely, but still it did not fix it.

Does anyone know what can fix this? It happens every 15 minutes or so while watching a movie... a slight pause or hiccup. Is there a VLC setting that can fix this?

    Thanks for any help!

Might want to maybe read the thread you're posting to. With 18 pages of repeated questions, the odds aren't bad that it's been brought up before.

In short, it just seems to do that with Linpus.

My solution for the time being is Kuki.

Thanks, I did read that section prior to posting... the reason I asked, is because there was no solution stated. I was hoping someone had found a solution. Oh well... I'll try booting some other live linux distros and see if there is any improvement. I've already tried SLAX... the movie player will play DIVX, but it is even worse, as it is jerky all the way though... not a lot, bue enough to be annoying. I've never heard of Kuki... I'll look into that.

Hello guys a new VLC release (talking about 0.9.5-3.f8) and although i thought this should be good I've got some problems. You may remember that in the previous release we should open the *.avi then we had to open the *.srt and checking the advanced button we choose the encoding we want. Now in this release, after you open .avi and .srt you should go to preferences by ctrl+p and after check subtitles/osd. there should be a menu about encoding set to default (no problem untill here) when you change the encoding for me to greek (####-7) there is no way to save this option. At the begin i thought that the window was too big to see tha SAVE button ,nothing however.
I had to go to the edition 0.8.6i here i can't even find the way to change the encoding. Tried preferences->Input/codecs and then nothing at all. I cant find any other older edition. I don't even remember which was my previous one worket ok. Any ideas?
