    UPDATE
    8th Jan 2009

    Hi,

Thanks for being patient with my lack of inactivity over the past couple of weeks, a number of things have happened which have prevented me from updating this kernel based on your feedback. Firstly, the monitor on my build machine died, shortly followed by the toshiba drive in my One. Add in the busy holiday period and the fact that I have just gotten out of hospital after a motorbike accident (in which I ripped my knee to the bone) and well.... you get the idea.

But, I have been in contact with leak, author of Kuki linux and I have been invited by him to join his team and I hope to start work on a new kernel as soon as possible. Hopefully, within half a week, I will have compiled a complete list of things to do for this new kernel release, based on your feedback in this thread and will have released a new kernel.

So far, these are my plans:

    Compile 2.6.28 released kernel.
add sdhc stuff in as a module to allow module options
    add optional mad wifi deb
add serialusb stuff for 3g usb
add in ath5k kernel patches for wifi LED functioning.

If you have any requests, please message me and I'll see what I can do.

    Thanks

    Stuart.

I need to give credit to hardran3 for this, as explained in this thread:
    viewtopic.php?f=28&t=7090

I have compiled a release candidate of the upcoming 2.6.28 kernel just because I wanted to get stuff working.

I used hardran3's config, but added in the drivers for the new ALSA in this kernel, so now we have 100% working sound, mic and headphone detection, both before and after resume. The cam, left hand card reader works without a card inserted at boot. I havent tested the right hand one but im sure the usual tweaks apply as stated in the wiki.

By all means if someone has suggestions as to how we can further cut stuff out of this tell us how!

    UPDATE - 15th December, 2008 - 16:45 Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time

OK, due to requests, I have compiled a 2.6.28-rc8 kernel which includes the following additional features:
    Extra filesystem support
    Bluetooth Support
    Support for Hibernation
    Support for Intel Wireless Devices

    http://www.ug.it.usyd.edu.au/~scole/lin ... m_i386.deb
    http://www.ug.it.usyd.edu.au/~scole/lin ... m_i386.deb

The kernel image is fine under 8.04.1, but the headers will not install. All drivers are included like wireless and ALSA 1.0.18a for fully functioning sound and mic, even after suspend/resume.

The kernel will install under the UNR image, but since it is LPIA, you will need to install with
    Code:
    sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture linux-image-2.6.28-rc8-custom-aa1_2.6.28-rc8-custom-aa1-10.00.Custom_i386.deb
For fully functioning sound you need to edit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base and add this line to the end of the file for the sound/mic etc
    Code:
    options snd-hda-intel model=acer-aspire
I also had to play around with the mixer settings to get the mic to record at a usable volume.

    Here are the files:
    http://www.ug.it.usyd.edu.au/~scole/

If anyone can mirror these that would also be good as I dont know how much bandwidth I can use!

Does suspend/resume works with home at SDHC on the left slot?

Re: 2.6.28-rc6 Kernel debs. Working sound and mic after resume

This is a good idea. I want to try mad wifi, but im not sure that the LEDs will work anymore with this kernel regardless of the wifi driver?
    Or am I talking rubbish?

Re: 2.6.28-rc6 Kernel debs. Working sound and mic after resume

Hehe. Yea I know they are dodgey, I havent compiled a kernel for a long time and ive never done it the deb way really, so the version number is not showing up.

Also, I did this in an hour or two, I havent really tested this so its at your own risk! I'd hate to mess someones system up.

With Madwifi, the LED is blinking it's so sweet :p
And with madwifi, you can use.... AirCrack

I tried to compile it, i've got a lot of error

    So i abandonned :) I'm happy with ath5k and this kernel :)

Re: 2.6.28-rc6 Kernel debs. Working sound and mic after resume

The Led are Functionnal with madwifi instead of ath5k :)

    You have to add
    Code:
    # Controle de la LED Wi-Fi de l'Aspire One
    dev.wifi0.ledpin = 3
    dev.wifi0.softled = 3
    in your "/etc/sysctl.conf"

And Voila :D It work :)

But Some errors when trying compile from this kernel...
There is also a lpia kernel, will it run faster than your kernel?
edit : Apparently it's for better battery life :)

Re: 2.6.28-rc6 Kernel debs. Working sound and mic after resume

    OK,

Problem. Because kernel package SUCKS ASS, any kernel headers compiled with it are missing a file and are basically useless, meaning you wont be able to compile other modules.

This is a known bug in kernel package as far as i can tell.

As I posted in my other thread, this kernel fixed my sound issues! For the record, I'm using Intrepid Ibex.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I'm trying it out now on ibex. Can you make a deb for the header files?

    Thanks

The deb is hosted on the link on the first post, i.e. here: http://www.ug.it.usyd.edu.au/~scole/. If the link doesn't work for anyone, email me and I can send it to you via email (I would host it, but I have no where to host).

    GUY!!!

The deb for the headers is BROKEN!!

Im pretty sure you wont be able to compile anything on it

I am studying for exams which i have on monday, and just quickly put this together for myself. Its not meant to be a long term solution. As soon as the final kernel is released im sure someone a lot more knowledgeable than me will sort something out
    :)
