Chances are you won't find many drivers designed for windows 2000. 2000 is used primarily in a server environment these days, and I don't know whether you've noticed it, but the Aspire One is not exactly a ideal server machine. You might get some fucntionality if you're lucky, but it'll be a challenge.

As for other OSes, there's an OSX project going on on these boards, but I don't know anything about it. I think they have issues with drivers as well.

thank you for your answer, yes correct but i have used Windows 2000 for years as a non server, the Pro version which i use does not have to be run as a server based o/s it has all the functionality of 98/ME or Xp but just uses less system resources and has a lower sys requirement, regards

As you suspected, your main challenge will be to find W2K drivers for your ONE. Betting that the OEM has compatible drivers is pushing it a bit as most of the hardware is new. Stability wise, I do agree that W2K was way up there. This being said, XP is now also "mature" and should be considered.

FWIW, I am using XP Home SP3 on this AO150 (120GB HDD, 1GB RAM) and it's as fast as any other laptop. I even use Office 2007 on it and I do not see any real performance differences when compared to my dual-core Thinkpad T61P. Not bad for a sub $400 "netbook" (actually paid $314 for it at BB... it was their last ONE).

Note: Using Acronis Disk Director, I am in the process of partitioning my HDD to create a LINUX partition. I will then install UBUNTU "Hardy" (8.04) on it. Perhaps this would be an easier approach than W2K?

It seems odd that you would be snarky back to the respondant who asked why you would want to run a 10+ year old operating system, especially given that, (as another poster mentioned), most of the hardware is new. Ask yourself this - why would a hardware mfg want to go out of there way to make drivers for a 10+ year old operating system?

Having said that, you may be able to get W2K to work, but you'd have to go out of your way to find the drivers from the various mfg's. Maybe they used similar chipsets in the past on W2K machines, but that'd be very time consuming.
