Possible dud battery

I recieved a refurbed a110 last night and plugged it in to charge it up. The little orange light appears and it boots up fine. I than check the battery level and it says 100% charged and therefore unplug the power and boom the whole thing dies. I then try to reboot on battery power and nothing happens. Perhaps there was just not enough charge....so i leave it charging over night and come back to it this morning to get it going and still nothing!!! Is this just a dead battery that should be returned or am i doing something wrong?
