Potential 2GB ram fix ...unsolved

I was checking out ebay and found this

it is a kit that comprises of 2x 1.5gb ddr2 sodimm pc5300 667, i have two aao (one mine one my gfs) so this would be ideal - what do you think of the chances of working?

If I was you, I would not touch that with a barge pole, unless the seller sends you the serial numbers of the modules and you're prepared to have an argument when you receive the item.
As far as I know, there is no such a thing as a 1.5GB memory module, its not phisically possible. However, it would be in theory feasible, by cutting some of the address bus lines. Even so, I wouldnt put that in my laptop.

Sounds completely bogus to me......
however.....

the ebay auction does list a part number, and google finds that part number on many other web sites, all claiming to be the same thing. 1.5GB sodimm.

I thought the 3gb on macbooks was done with 1x2gb and 1x1gb so that should be what is being offered for sale here, I think the descriptions of most of the sales are wrong. Its not 2x1.5 its 1x1 + 1x2

how come its physically impossible? can we not change some addresses on a 2gb one as a separte question...

its just the way PCs access the RAM via the DIMMs and addresses memory locations.
at the moment I am not sure exactly, but this could not be true anymore with DDR3 and the 6-DIMM Ci7.
as I said, you could try and break one of the addressing lines, but my guess is that, in the best case scenario, you would only get away with a 1GB working DIMM.

Just for everyone's information.

Yes a 3GB kit from Corsair *did* exist but it is not a current product and is therefore not on their website. This is from Corsair themselves.

As always, the *BUT* is the kit was 1 x 1Gb and 1 x 2GB SODIMMs, not 2 x 1.5GB

Any ebay seller has either brought fake kit or is a crook. Either way, don't bother buying it.

Matter closed !!!!!
