Play.com are accepting pre-orders on various Aspire Ones! The most significant being those due for release on 1st December which include 3G!

Others available to pre-order are the Aspire One in Pink and Brown, a new specification of a 16GB SSD on the A110 and a 160GB HDD on the A150 (with or without 3G).

    Bah rip off!

You can simply mod the Aspire One with a 3G card. WOW it has a bigger HDD which most owners replace their HDD's with bigger and better HDD's than that.

If you ask me that's a waste of money.

Maybe so but the only 3G mod I have seen isnt easy! It is expensive - a USB dongle is only £50.

    OMG THIS IS FANTASTIC NEWS!!

It's about time in the UK to be honest, funny how Acer.co.uk still haven't updated their website

Are these the ones with the 6 cell battery as well because there is no mention of it...

What a rip. Will there be a solid state version then, that will probably be around £250 with linpus. Be interesting to find out what the battery will be like.

You guys in the UK are lucky to have so many models to choose from.

I"m really curious about the 3G models though: it seems to be selling for a 360-273=87 pound premium for nothing but the 3G radio. And to even use it you'll need you're own sim card and data plan with a wireless carrier, right?

I figured the 3G models would be more-or-less exclusive to being bundled with a contract from a wireless provider.

3 Cell still, I haven't seen anywhere offering the 6 cell battery with an Aspire One.

Amazon.co.uk have slashed the price of the 1GB, 120GB HDD Linux model to £220 from £250.

Time to display my ignorance of all things cell-phone related...

Could someone explain how I would use the 3G on an aspire? Would I go to the cell-phone company and ask for a sim card + data plan contract or could I pop out the sim card on my existing phone and use than when I needed to? (The former would be expensive, the latter a pain in the butt..)

Yes you can do that and in my opinion it's better solution...

Yes you can do that as long as your SIM is 3G ready - new SIMs are most likely to be 3G ready, some old types are not...

Check available calling plans. May be you can get Pay'n'Go tariff where you will pay only for used transfer w/o monthly charge...

Alternatively, if you have mobile broadband then you can stick the SIM card out of that into the Aspire One - saves having something stuck out the side.

yeah i think that's how it works... a sim card slot with a data plan with a mobile operator.
and that is normally expensive, but i think there is a T mobile plan that will charge £1 a day, and i think that's the cheapest plan available...

i would think it would be best to get a dongle from Three on a pay as you go tariff that costs abotu a tenner a month.

The 'proper' mobile broadband plans are cheaper than a data bundle from your mobile phone operator, as you say you can get Pay As You Go Mobile Broadband with 3 alternatively I seem to think T-Mobile offer the same sort of thing.

I use 3 and have had no problems with it, I used it in Italy recently as part of their '3 Like Home' service.
