I just got a 10.1 Aspire 1 2 days ago and those 2 days have been really bad. I am at point of sending it back and getting another brand as this seems to nothing but a problem from day 1. 1: Couldn't partition disk due to some garbage called PQService which I understand is the cheap way to not have to provide any backup disks to customers. Partition Magic also reported errors in the headers and then refused to run because it couldn't id the drive letter. Strange, PQ is the 1st partition on disk with C as the 2nd partion. NEVER heard of making the C the 2nd partition of a drive. After spending time trying to resolve that problem and never succeeding even with some help from this forum, I loaded a Mapsource program with external USB drive and everything seemed ok until I went to update the program. One half ways into the update it aborted because 'You do not have access to this folder". I am the ONLY user listed and am the administrator. Seems I have no permissions to update anything. Almost the whole day trying to fix that problem following all kinds of suggestions with no results. Still have shareing tab on all folders and cannot remove it and change it to security tab to be able to check or change permissions. And now the USB device dosn't show up anyplace in any view, folder or Icon. I am currently trying the so called recovery program to restore system to factory default. If this doesn't work, any offers for a 2 day old 10.1 Aspire 1 will be looked at real carefully.

Just got off phone with Acer. They are sending new system disks. The system is useless now. It is stuck in a eRecovery loop and no matter what the tech tried, it will not come out of the loop. Safe mode etc etc etc also do not work. The eRecovery on the system itself was corrupted, so my recovery disk were also corrupted. eRecovery program gets to "Restore Progress" and then dumps with a error of 1005. Volume does not contain a recognized file system. System just loops. All the systems I have ever owned never had a problem like this. Tech said he had never seen anything like this before. Have to wait for system disk to see if I will keep this POS.

Tried ACer reformat disk downloaded from Acer. Seemed to work. Machine broke out of recovery loop and seemed to be reading the eRecovery disk. Went completly to the end, said ok, wait for system re-boot. GREAT! Now I can use this POS. WRONG! All it said was "No Operating system found". No matter what I do, it seems unable to find any system files at all even after it indicates that it has reloaded the system. No matter what boot sequence is used I got the same thing. No it is at PCIE Ehternet Controller. It can't find a boot file name and says "no bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key. It doesn't boot up with the eRocevery disk or a XP disk. Now I have to sit and wait for the ACer disk and go thru this all over again. It is time to contact cc company and contest payment and return this pile of garbage to Acer.
