I have been having problems with Firefox crashing at certain times so I decided to check for updates.
When I clicked on the help menu "Check for updates" is greyed out.
I googled this and read that if firefox came bundled with the OS you have to update the OS to update Firefox.
    So, I chose system-software updater
The Package update screen comes up with packages listed to be installed
    I click apply updates
    The dependencies added screen appears
    I click to continue
Then after a short while I get "Error updating software"
I click the details button and the folllowing is the error I get
    can anyone advise? thanks.

If you used the system update option from the so called advanced menu it wont work. Linpus is based on fedora 8 in the older model aspires and this distro is no longer supported. What you have done is tried to update a stripped down version of linux from a full version repository. The only thing you can do is install a new OS by creating a live usb using unetbootin, this you then use to boot your computer if you want full linux functionality and support. I'd recommend linux mint, it all works out from the start. You could just update firefox using the link below if you havent fried your box with the update. DO NOT remove firefox 2 from linpus it will completely hose your system.

    Thanks for your help Darryl.

I've updated Firefox to 3.6.11 and all seems pretty stable at the moment.

I will think about upgrading the OS in the future though as I'm getting a bit bored with Linpus.

I have the Aspire with the 8GB SSD; will Linux Mint fit on that?

    Thanks again.
