    hi

i am a n00b when it comes to linux, so please keep ur answers simple for me :)

i installed the ntfs -3g package for my aspire one. then i also downloaded the ntfs config software, to modify my read/write settings for ntfs partitions.

trouble is, after installing that config package, i have been unable to mount my external drives as well as usb flash drives. i keep getting the following error:

"Unable to mount <external device name>"
"Only root can mount <some folder structure> to <some folder structure>"

i removed the ntfs package, restarted the system, and reinstalled only the NTFS-3g package. (i know it's a windows hangover lol)

still unable to mount my external devices. (includes FAT, NTFS drives).

    thanks guys

    hey, i fixed the problem.

logged in as root using the "su" command in the terminal

then i made a new directory in the /mnt folder.

finally, i mounted the problematic partition into the newly created folder. (after using dfs to find the device name)

    unmounted it

restarted the system. problem solved :)

Huh? Could you provide a bit more detail for those of us brining up the rear of this intellectual journey? :?:
